Exactly, crusher, and good call on the BS. My truck only runs 62. I'm a conservative driver, as is my wife. I can pull down 7-7.25 mpg on a 20,000 lb Conway load, but the fact is that for every Conway load, there are 10 regular, 40,000-43,000 lb refrigerated loads. On those, getting 6.2-6.5 is particularly amazing. So, on Conway, my paid mpg runs around 6.5-6.75, and on heavy loads, I average 5.5-5.8 paid mpg.
That said, "paid mpg" is figured on PAID miles, not actual mileage that your truck gets, plus you have to add in factors like out of route miles, like going 26 miles round-trip last night after we dropped so we could park at the nearest truck stop.
Factor all this in, knowing the type of loads we pull, plus a truck that runs 9 mph faster than mine....and "7 paid mpg" is either total BS and recruiter babble, or just someone who isn't good at math.

Can you survive on a demo lease? Yes, you can survive. There are things that you should consider on their leasing. I recently left England, so I do have an understanding of their policies.
1. If you are a solo lease operator it is going to be hard for you to get by. I heard MANY England solo lease drivers complain that they received negative settlement statements and cannot keep up with their bills (except for solo lease dedicated fleets).
2. It also depends on where you live. If you live in an area that you can get on an England solo lease dedicated route, then you can do more than survive.
I still have friends that work for England, and I can tell you what type of friends that I would refer to England.
Do you have a family unit that won't mind you being out on the road for a month at a time (not required by ICs, but request that you do 6wks out 4days off, or something like that)?
Do you live near Salt Lake City, Los Angeles (Mira Loma), Chicago (Burns Harbor, IN), or Laredo, TX (there might be a few more)? It's a lot easier to get on a dedicated fleets, you should make decent money in these areas.
Do you want to be an OTR Driver? I would not recommend England as an OTR company. More than likely, you will end up sitting somewhere, at a truck stop, complaining about England. I drove for England for 7 months, I didn't have big problems until about the 4th or 5th month. Prior to that, I was satisfied (I never had a late load that was my fault, preventable accident, and did not go above their level 2 log violations). When I was satisfied, I was one of the few. When I talk to my England buddies, they still complain about the company. -
rit8ed i felt the same way but my big problem with them was the dm i had he thought that the all mighty dollar bill was more important than getting rest for the next day to be rested to run the next day. 3when i mentioned hometime someone said for every week out 1 day home well when it came to my home time i would only get 3.5 days not 4 (i would run 4 weeks out over the road) should have 4 days home.

Heck, I had two negative settlements and a $200 check WHILE running with a trainee...not as a solo...
-
didnt get the miles thats one of the ways a driver is in the negative or the loads aint there cant blame the trainee. hes only training unless he wtecked your truck? then theres a diffrence but id bet there wasnt the miles or the runs. just remember gotta take the long runs with with the short runs cant have your cake and eat it to
-
Wasn't complaining about having a trainee....just saying that I was running as a team, and still didn't get enogh miles to break even, much less make anything.
I've never turned down a load or a swap, period. -
thanks for the info, ive been local since 1987 can drive a truck no problem but with no recent otr exp, its hard to get on even with clean dmv record. does anybody have any sug, job market in north carolina is at all time low. schnieder trk rec, says they need 3 months recent otr then can get dedicated run no problem need help thanks.

personaly thats the problem with a leaseing a truck if theres not the miles then your behind on da payments and everything else.gambler well england isnt the best paying job lotta bs but thats everywhere you go. you could get your 3 months there is always an option
-
that was the big reason why i didnt lease with them when they still can screw a driver thats trying to make a living driving leaseing isnt a good idea when first starting

My wife is in their Dallas school right now doing her upgrade - we aren't believing how leasing is CRAMMED down the throats of the 100 or so people attending school this week.
They have a couple of trainers come in with their trucks all shined up, all the students taking pictures with their phones, climbing all over the trucks.....it's sad that these folks are getting brainwashed into losing their butts.
