Central is the lesser of the two evils.
-
I have no first hand experience with either, but based on what I have seen posted here I would have to agree that central would be the lessor of the two evils.
Just look around these forums and you will find posts for both companies.Last edited: Aug 29, 2009

First off, a clarification. To lease, this does not mean lease to own. Lease in trucking companies means that you rent the truck at your expense. You pay for the costs to maintain said truck.
If you want to own a truck, go to the nearby tractor company and BUY a tractor to own. I would suggest you get a used rather than new for the first truck. The payments will be lower, and this WILL BE your truck.
If however you only plan on being with the company say CR England for a year only to get your feet wet, then go with a "fast track truck lease". It wont be your truck, but at the end of the year you will have no obligations to the company any more and can leave with no penalties.
Mind you corporate industry only has one desire. To make profits. The lease is a sweet deal for them but not you. They rent you a truck for 3 years, at the end of the 3 years they give you a bonus of say 3 grand for completion and take the truck (that you essentially have paid in full for) and resell it for 50 grand. Yes the same tractors you can buy for 50 grand are the ones the companies are selling off with plenty of good miles left on them.
I personally liked working at CR. There were a few bad apples, and it is easy to remember the bad apples. Yet there were more good apples than bad ones that I remember. The equipment was good. All terminals that I went to were clean. Everyone was helpful and had the time of day to help you if you asked. Grin even if you were terribly confused with the paperwork no one said I am too busy to help. I might try some day to see if I can go back. I hope this helps you. Yet dont take my rosy picture. They are a corporate company. -
Can't say about Central since I haven't worked there. I've heard bad things from others who did work there, but I also hear bad things about England - which is who I drive for.
The best insight I can offer is this: It seems that whichever company you choose, it's going to be largely what you make of it. That what I've experienced at England and, although no company is perfect and there have been a couple SMALL issues (which did get resolved to my satisfaction), it's been a good experience for the most part.
There are some who only look for things to complain about. And complaints is all they find and all you hear from them.
Go with a level head and at least a decent attitude and you'll more than likely be able to make either company work for you.
Adapt and overcome, right? -
There are better choices for newbs than these two companies....

Sorry I can't completely agree with ED28560, My wife & i wanted to run team again after a 10 yr absence. We where never told that We could both train together and skip the second training phase, I was given a truck with a very short lease that was'nt road ready as I found out after a month of getting 3.5 to 4.9 mpg. Then there was the problem of getting home... Either way CR works for some people just be carefull before You sign on the dotted line... And dont forget that all trucking companies have the dreaded DAC report to threaten You with...
