You're good as long as it's not on driver's side in your field of vision.

    pattyj and TruckerPete1990 Thank this.

Personally it would drive me nuts, and I'd have it replaced at the earliest opportunity. It may dull the edge of your wiper blade and cause it to streak as well.

I think this falls under exception number (c)(2). From the FMCSA regulations:

    Stupid flatbeds&construction workers......

Anything over 6 inches I would get replaced immediately and not risk getting waved in.

I drive a trk with a cracked windshield on passenger side, top left thanks to a belly dump hauling rock and didn't have his load tarped secure enough.I did tell dispatcher and the shop. Its fine and like windsmith it drives me nuts, lol. With this cold weather it will get worse but as long as your company knows about it I wouldn't worry too much.

I've got one for ya. The guy I have been training with said he had a large bird fly into his windshield coming south on 85 from SC into Ga. Cracked his windshield real good, and he got pulled in Jefferson, ga as a result. He got an OS till he got it replaced, but the inspector told him if he would have removed the damaged drivers side glass, he could have kept going with NO drivers windshield, providing he wore impact resistant glasses as you would on a motorcycle.

I called BS on this, but he said he checked and it's true.

    What do you guys think?

Just had to replace my entire one piece windshield due to clumsiness on my part. I was out west in Regina last week where it was -22F. Decided to replace my wiper blades and in the process I accidentally knocked the wiper arm on the drivers side back into the windshield. Boy that thing cracked and spidered immediately. It kept getting worse due to the temperature but it was never fully in my field of vision. I said to hell with it, I had plans on the weekend, I drove it back to Toronto like that and had it replaced on Monday. Oops!
