Isn't there suppose to be some sort of breather in the valve cover where the road draft tube comes out?
Just recently I have noticed the oil is real slow to drain back to the oil pan, I am trying to figure out what could cause this. I thought I would change the breather, but there is not one there, maybe I am wrong.
Anybody have a clue what would cause the oil to stay up in the engine for a while instead of draining back like it is suppose to?

There are several large drain back holes in a 3406E/C15 cylinder head, so that shouldnt be an issue to get oil back to the pan. Are you sure it's a 5EK?

Alot of 2WS/1LW had the blowby tube coming out on the driver's side of the block instead of in a valve cover.

Positive, and it is coming off the center valve cover, engine is clean under the valve covers.
Cat said there was nothing suppose to be there, I could have swore they had a chore girl type of filter.

All I've ever seen is a piece of material almost equivalent that of sos pad material in the E model crankcase breather. The E model used the 9Y2988 style. The C15/acert had a completely different style built into the valve cover and then incorporated a oil catch canister that sent the collecting oil back to the pan.

Same thing I am calling a chore girl, different brand. lol
The KW parts guy, isn't the best, but he took my numbers and called cat, whose parts people here are the very worst I have ever seen, and they claimed that nothing went in there. I know I have never taken anything out, and I have put a little over 500,000 on it myself.

All I'm pulling up is the 9Y2988 for the type that mounts on top of the valve cover on a 5EK. Both S/N breaks for the 5EK also show the style that comes out the side of the engine block as an available option as well.

Not all of the E model blocks had the opening for a Crankcase breather on the block (108-3918 and 136-7329 come to mind). After that the 7N1200 block came out (6TS basically) and it did have the casted in opening for the block crankcase breather, but not the updated water bonnet opening at number 6 cylinder. After that block, then the stronger block late 6TS, 1LW, 2WS came out using the updated block (137-8466) they also incorporated a different style water bonnet on the back side of the oil cooler along with the addition of the casted in crankcase breather.

When they came out with the C15, that block crankcase breather option was removed on the 125-8850 block.

Ok that's interesting. I only looked up the 5EK prefix in SIS and looked at both S/N breaks for that prefix. Both showed the engine block crankcase breather and the valve cover mounted one. I'll be the first to admit I'm not the most versed in the Cat truck engine line as we rarely, if ever, touch on road Cat engines.

This is not the original block, Kw installed a new block at close to 500,000. Where would the breather be located if it has one on the block, I do not think it does, but could be wrong?
I know it doesn't because there is no other tube.

If you get the chance, I'm not 100% sure if SIS will show it or not, but look up those block numbers sometime and see if it will show it. I'd be curious to know if it does or not.
