I bought a 2011 387 from Paccar Financal in SLC, I have no complaints about the experience.
The photo of the engine to me reads as a 400hp engine, so if they are saying its a 450, then its been turned up.
The 389 is a nice looking truck, but it's pretty much speced for heavy work. That big flat front going to cost you 10 to 20% in fuel cost.
Crate engine or 415k mile truck purchase?

The 389 is nice but i couldn't get any history as far as miantanance and it has a pending sale so i think I'm gonna shoot for the KW either way as far as fuel economy in my operation it doesn't matter it's either i pay the bigger fuel bill or i pay the taxman in April so it's not something I'm really concerned about.Last edited: Nov 18, 2014

I would be leery of a Swift or any other mega carrier truck that trains new drivers.BeN DaViS Thanks this. -
Stay away from any ex mega carrier trucks. All salesperson here in SLC are nice not pushy but trucks from Swift are crap.
Got truck 6 months ago from nice dealer now I'm in double price for repair and parts just for emergency. I.m not talking about LIST TO DO.
Why they have such''GOOD" truck for sale?????? THINK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!BeN DaViS Thanks this. -

My two since of what's it worth, IF the truck needed a motor at 347k miles i would run as fast as my size 10 feet would go. A few years ago had the same problem with a ford p/u, and bought the truck pretty cheap and got the motor under warranty and before i could get tags on the truck it was sold because it had more problems than it was worth. Just because it has a new motor, i would do an oil sample and look at everything else as far as the Tran's, clutch, rear end;s. Good luck on what you do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If it was me I would get the KW T600, Better on fuel and it has a new Motor. If the new motor checks out ok and everything else checks out fine.. It going to be a better truck in the long run. Running a ex swift truck is not a problem, You just have to make sure you maintain the equipment to keep it running. People shy away from good truck simply because it was in a Mega fleet, while some trucks are run hard, Not all. Its a used truck you don't know what you have until you drive it.
Small fleets drive their truck even harder, esp if the truck is wide open. Do your research on the truck if it all checks out and you like it go for it. Keep your PM Up and you should be fine..BeN DaViS Thanks this.
