Well I don't have the memory I used to but I do seem to remember ...... I had a guy in town ask me if I could help out his driver by teaming a fast turn out to the shaky side so the guy could be home in time for a family thing that he had .
Well the guy stops by the house to get me on his way from Chicago about 2 hours late . I had a bad feeling by then . So it goes pretty uneventful but I found out real fast why the guy wanted me to go along . This guy was one of them that can't pass a truck stop without pulling in getting coffee and of course that meant that pie was needed too. He left a dollar tip each time and this was in 83 when you could get coffee and pie for 2.50 !

Anyway we to California and he starts to get all nervous and freaked out about having to drop off Cajon pass . So I tell him if it bothers him that much I will drop of the hill for him .Well he says no way he don't trust anyone on that MOUNTAIN LOL . So he stops at the top and gets set for the MOUNTAIN . He starts out and when he hits second gear he just holds it in second he wont shift up from there . He gets about a quarter of a mile past the break check area and a CHP pulls up beside us and hollers over his PA " Driver if you are going to drive that slow pull over on the shoulder to drive " !!!!

Now that started him freaking out about now they are going to pull me behind the scales !! They didn't but he was still freaked over the whole deal . When we stopped for our drop I called his boss and told him to get a plane ticket or tell he was just going to ride home in the jump seat . So I drove back to the house and sent him on his way to Chicago to deliver . That was his last trip in a truck because he couldn't take the stress . I think his boss would have had to fly out to get his truck in LA if I hadn't been there to get it out and his driver out LOL.

I still to this day have never been told over a loudspeaker to drive it on the shoulder if I am going to drive that slow LOL!!

Really lmao! I haven't been up or down that hill yet.. And that's not the hill I'm worried about  I'm more worried about the Grapevine.

Grapevine is nothing to be worried about. Slow and steady, same as every hill in the interstate. Save the worry for when you get off the big roads.

Why do people worry about the grapevine? Just drive the speed they tell you to drive, put it in the right gear and you'll have no problems.

I've been from castaic to wheeler ridge, and I've been the other way, without ever hitting my brakes over that 50 some odd miles, loaded right up to 80000 pounds. It isn't difficult.

Exactly. The only ones that have problems are the ones that want to fly down it, or go down in too high a gear so they got to constantly ride their brakes.
