This has been some crazy weather this week. I'm currently in Arizona. I'm suppose to be heading back to Fresno to pick up my next load on Monday but all routes heading that way are shutdown. So I may not make it back there but supposedly the grapevine will open on Sunday. But probably with CHP escort I would imagine. So if that is the case should I try to make over the grapevine or wait it out I'm pulling an empty flatbed trailer. And of course my truck has super signal tires which I don't trust in the snow/ ice. Looking for a little advice
Thanks

No weight with fat tires. If it is slippery at all you will be in big trouble.
-
Yeah that's what I was thinking which is why I am leaning towards waiting for conditions to improve. Which I guess I will see what my company thinks when I ain't in Fresno on Monday lol. I discussed my concern with dispatch on Friday when they assigned me the load which all they said was well we will deal with it on Monday. Which I'm not risking my life for no company or load.Moosetek13 and dwells40 Thank this.

If you aren't comfortable, tell them that. If they order you to drive anyway, ask them to connect you to Safety for the ultimate decision. Dispatch will either change their tune right quick or is too ignorant of what the Safety folks will say to the Bosses about them. Want to lose money quick? Make a driver move in hazardous conditions.
New drivers are especially easy to push around. Bottom line is safety - for you, for the load, for the truck, and for others on the road with you. Especially sporting super singles.
May I ask what company? -
And that is why I ask companies: "So, do you have super singles or sensible tires?"Moosetek13 Thanks this.

Combine Transport which I have not had any issues with the company yet and I have super signal on the truck which I'm not exactly a new driver I have been driving for about 5 years now but I'm new to the company. And my last company I worked for switch us in to new trucks with the super signal tires which I drove last winter and I got to say they seem to slip and skid a hell alot and caused me a lot more problems than when I was running dually tires I even ran in to Canada alot.

Where in Arizona and why would you be going over the grapevine from Arizona to go to Fresno?
Last I read Tehachapi is open so depending on what 58 is like it would seem that even working your way over to at least 95 coming up the river and then across the desert and 58 down Tehachapi to 99 would probably work
definitely better than going through LAducnut, rockeee and drvrtech77 Thank this. -
I would cut up to 58 and go across..58 is back open…la area has way too many issues with heavy snow and flooding rains with mudslides too…they’ve had 10” of rain down there.
ducnut Thanks this. -
Customers know the weather is bad. Stay put until conditions improve. Someone will definitely say "go" if they think you are slacking. If you start and have to stop elsewhere you will probably have no good spot to wait it out.cuzzin it Thanks this.

You could always take 101 then cut back across to Fresno if you really need to get there.
