iv been working for england for about 1 year now,,, i went threw the hole nine yards and i am leaseing a truck ,,i think anyone with experiance should not even waist there time commenting on england,,, its a bottom feeder and if your not at the bottom then dont waist your time,,, for me they offerered the financing and the ability for me to learn a new trade.. it has been one heck of a struggle to make it profitable and some settlements i have even owed money,,,,
i meet alot of england drivers that realy have no buisness leasing a truck, driving a truck or even contemplating owning a buisness,, and thats not only in england thats in just about every truckstop in the country,,,
this site helped me to understand what i was getting myself into and i thank all for the advises stories and over all education.. 1 year into driving i am leasing with england i have struggled alot more than a company driver ever would but i got a short lease and in july i will be going to the purchase end on a 2009 cascadia. as it stands right this minute i am sitting in the philippines with my son on a 3 week vacation ,,, i worked threw the 4th of july, christmas, new years my sons first bday and am gratefull to be sitting here with a job to go back to.
my advise is to enjoy life, take it as a challenge educate yourself and know what your doing befor you do it, if you dont enjoy a challenge then be a company driver and relax,,,
thanks to all for the education,,,,,![]()

i am a firm beleiver that noone does to me what i dont want them to do ,,, call me a masicist but this has accualy been a positive experiance for me,,, i have been able to save for the vacation i am on right now and alot more.. i wont be broke when i go back to work and i am still paying 700 a week for my soon to be truck to sit instead of a releif driver killing it,,, in july the 14 cents variable milage goes away,,, and that will more than cover my truck payment, insurance and permits,,, there is a way to make money in any situation brother,,, and i think the hardest part will be over in july,,, as for being a fool ,,, how could i have gotten to the situation i am in in another way any quicker? if i did not explain correctly let me one more time,,, i finish the lease in july,,, i wont pay the 7000 dollars down payment with awards and the money that horizon has contributed,,, my first 6 months i made only 15,000 dollars,,, i barely was able to survive with my small family,,, so the fool parting with the money is past-tence,,,i did my research and i knew what i was getting into and i would do the same again given the same surcumstances,
i have fought the england way non stop but i fight within the lines and i make things work the best i can ,,,i dont hear many success stories so if yours is a success when you first started please let me and others know,,,
this site and other sites prepared me better for what i was getting into,,, and im thankful for all the advise in the archives...anyway brother,,,, keep the shinny side up and enjoy life,,,FINALCUT, bikegoon and AfterShock Thank this. -
I visited Manilla years ago while in the us navy. I thought the country was real pretty. In fact, the philippines is where I got my first "piece"
and the clap.
I leased at cr england myself couple years ago.
U4EA Thanks this. -
If you ask any driver with anykind of knowledge about this industry im sure they will tell you there are very few(if any) companies that offer lease purchase deals that are concerned about a driver making a living and owning his own truck.

I just completed a six month lease with england, the lease is what you make of it. Are drivers getting screwed...yes...are drivers making a killing doing it with england ..yes!!!
I didn't get rich, i didn't starve to death, but i had no overhead at home either!!!
I get tired of hearing people gripe about the 14 cent variable mileage, at least England tells you it's there!! Other conmpanies hide it in the weekly truck payment or balloon at he end, others just call it trailer rent, either way you are paying with anybody not just england, it's just a matter of knowing or not, and england at least doesn't did not camoflauge it!!
I made money, completed the lease successfully and now i went company driver. Why? I intended to go company when i signed on to england originally, i leased for 6 months to see if it was the bugaboo every cried about....
Like any business you have good times and bad, and the bad seem really bad when they occur but you stick it out and recover from them..thats business!!
When i had bad times it was because: 1. Did not have the best fleet assignment. 2. Had mediocre at best load planners and DM. 3. Trainee wrecked my truck!!
Yet i still finished the lease in the black!! If you follow the business training England gives you and don't try to do it "your way" you can be successful, and like the man who started the post said, most of the people whining are people who don't know anything about trucking, business, or even initiative or ambition. Would whine if somebody gave a winning lottery ticket for free worth millions because it didn't have enough zeroes.
Most people who fail at leasing, have no ambition, they don't even want to drive the "break even" miles, communicate to keep moving, can't manage time etc. then cry "England screwed me through my trousers!!" on forums like this one.
Like i said been there done that to prove it can be done successfully, then went company like i originally intended a week ago.
Most people crying about the lease are people who don't understand plain english.....OPPORTUNITY and GUARANTEE are two diffrent words with different meanings all england promises you in your lease is an OPPORTUNITY noty a GUARANTEE you'll make money.
I'm with the guy above England gave me an chance at something, anyone who thinks the grass is always greener at the "Other company", go for it but i bet you never find hapiness, as all companies will have aspects you won't like, because the problem isn't the company you drive for, it's the attitude you have towards trucking in general if your honest with yourself, trucking is what it is, long hours, time away from family friends and home, haslles with the dispatchers, company, shippers and recievers. It will be the same with England or any other company out here.sashadow Thanks this. -
Now I'm sure completing a 6mo lease at CRE is something to be proud of. But after reading a couple of posts on CRE lease completions, you would think you guys just completed 6mo's of combat and where the sole survivors of your platoon.
Sorry, but renting a truck for 6mo's gets you a achievement medal, Not the MOH. -
C'mon you don't think working for a irregular route OTR carrier like CRE that lets anyone who can tie their shoe lease a truck breeds bad attitudes toward trucking in general?
Yea but at many other carriers there are far less hassles with shprs, recvrs and dprs because they don't make up the losses in the office, off the backs of their drivers who are happy to have a job.
In the year 2001 I was making $.35 a mile to drive a OTR truck and get screwed by suits behind desks. 10 years later the average OTR company is paying the same to get screwed by suits behind desks with far more rules and restrictions. So yes, the problem IS the OTR carrier in many cases. You get what you pay for.AfterShock and Bazerk Wizz Bang! Thank this. -
As for ballon payment. Understand what a balloon payment it is. It's the residual value that the lessee sets as the pay off on the truck if you chose to purchase it. The key here is choose. Also the balloon payment should be in the lease aggreement so that you can make an informed decision as to if that value is reasonable going in .... CRE on the other hand does not provide the pay off amount up front in the contract. They hide it from you until you finish the lease.
Now let's talk about camoflage ... try CREs fuel cap. It's CREs way of skimming the fuel surcharge for themselves. CRE emaphasizes you will never pay more then $1.25 for fuel ... what they really mean is you will never pay less than $1.25 for fuel.AfterShock Thanks this. -
Apparently, you don't fully understand the way the cap works. The cap was designed to assure you pay a reasonable amount per gallon of fuel if your driving habits, type of truck you're driving, how many miles a week you are running compared to the amount of fuel you are buying, how much idling you do and how much you follow your own routing among a few other things are preventing you from getting a high PMPG which is what you need if you want to really be successful on the rebate.
As long as you can atleast maintain 5.8, a buck 25 is pretty reasonable.
Besides, if you can't even average between 5.9 and 6 PMPG, the cap will be better to you because it will not charge you more per gallon if your PMPG stays around or below 6.2 or so like the rebate will if you can't maintain atleast a 6.3 or so or above.Last edited: Mar 26, 2011
