Thats funny that their making them go team. By the time they do go solo they are going to be so used to driving team they wont know how to run solo. Which is nothing like running team at all.

Hello all from a wife. My husband started orientation with CT England on Feb. 1st and is driving with his trainer. He went in as a solo co. driver. England put out over the computer that any driver newer than 11 months with the co must team up at a rate of .12 per mile. That rate seems a bit low ( I really do not know though). His trainer mentioned that he would be lucky to realize 4000 mi. per month. Obviously we are not to happy with this turn of events.
We went into CR knowing much of the bad raps with England. We expect long seperations and all of the difficulty of being apart. He has had his CDL, all endorsements for years and OTR in europe for several years prior to 2002, unfortunately CR & Swift were the only companies willing to take him. The others want OTR of a minimum 6 mo to a year. Long story long, is .12 a fair rate? My thoughts are that he could find something even if it is not driving and make the equivelent of what he would realize staying with CR. Any and all feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank You!

.12 cents a mile is TERRIBLE. I teamed from 1993 to 1997 and never was paid that low. I'm planning on teaming again in June and most companies are splitting .42 cents a mile (.21 cents each).
There really are better companies out there, maybe you'll just have to wait till spring/summer.
Also, a lot of truck training schools offer a shorter course for the people that have been out of trucking for awhile. Some companies will accept that as training.

Ater talking with him a bit more we agree that .12 will absolutely not work. Times being what they are he could literally clean toilets for more than what he would realize at .12. The bite to all of this is he cannot get a straight answer from his manager. He keeps getting the " call your recruiter" crap. My thoughts are get home without getting a blemish on your DAC. Unemployment will pay more than waiting it out with CRE and accepting a slave wage. Hopefully this 2 weeks with them will not injure his chance for unemployment. He was layed off from Hauling minerals (diatematous earth) on 1/26.

Thank you for your responses....and allowing me to vent!

That .12 rate is not once he is driving team. That is while he is in CAT 2 training. The least amount he would make as a team is .31 a mile.

Also, and I am not defending CRE here just stating the facts as I know them. If he only saw 4000 in a month something went seriously wrong. Freight is slow right now. It should pick up but never 4000 in a whole month. for Jan I had almost 6000 and I was not in a truck until half way through the month. Tell your husband to stop listening to people that dont know what they are talking about and get the facts. The pay scale is on the website. As far as 4000 miles a month, that is just common sense. If you have any other questions you can ask me. If I dont know the answer I will find it out from the people that actually know.

He is in the experienced driver training.....10 days with trainer and then training is done. Manager would not commit to a wage, at last communication stated pay as a new team driver would vary between .13 - .17....trainer said the higher wage would be if he teamed with a leaser. We are throwing the hat in with them. He is in LA right now to be dropped off in SLC terminal so that he can turn in the gas card etc. I will leave after work Saturday and pick him up. Its a 7 hr drive from here.

    Thank You,
    Lori
