Some things some drivers forget: At least a basic tool kit, i.e. vise grips, screwdrivers, filter wrench, duct tape, hammer. Extra water and oil. fuel filters, extra headlights and tail lights, o rings for glad hands, air hose that connects to glad hand, flashlight, tire pressure gauge, gloves, spray bottle of soapy water (great for finding air leaks), WD 40, spray silicone for sticky tandems, non perishable food items, drinking water.
For winter I would also bring kitty litter or road salt, and 2 or 3 candles in a coffee can for heat.

Office supplies was a good tip. I keep several ink pens, a stapler, tape for taping small receipts to a blank sheet for scanning. Also basic cleaning supplies are a must. Especially windex and paper towels. Nothing worse then dirty mirrors. Sunblock for people who are out of the truck a lot. Other then that its clothes and basic tools, a cooler, and hygiene stuff. Now of course I have a lot of goodies for down time like my tv and xbox and microwave but things like that are a plus not a necessity. And if you don't have a power supply then they are useless.

If you are compiling a list for flatbedders: hard hat, prescription safety glasses if you wear glasses (those slip over goggle things just don't work when getting sweaty loading and tarping), safety vest, and ear plugs (many steel mills are requiring ear plugs now, and half of them don't provide them, or are always out of them)
and a strap winder (huge time saver).

Thanks MrEd...that reminds me, I think it is a DOT requirement to carry a spare pair of prescription eyeglasses if you wear them. If not, still a good idea.

Wow.. thank you to ALL of you. No, we don't run any flat bed, reefers, or tankers, just dry vans......but nonetheless....there were many things on this last update I was able to add to the list!

You know what, I'm going to give these lists to my secretary, and she'll put them in the filing cabinet in the sleeper.
