If that's a new driver trainee list, I would leave out some stuff because they can use the trainers. Like the truckers map, stapler, all tools except gloves, camera, cleaning supplies, books, magazines.

Bedding, since one has to sleep on the trainers bed while the truck is moving, it's easier just to throw a sleeping bag on top of his bedding and sleep on that with a blanket and pillow.

Boot's, I would specify steel toed as it's a requirement on a few docks.

Bank acct info, I would specify have a cancelled check for direct deposit.

But in general for someone going straight in their own truck it's not bad. They have to limit things because you can only take so much on a bus. I would limit things to a duffle bag and carry on bag.

No, its not a "New Driver" list (as in right out of school).... its just a list for drivers in general. We have several drivers that I have noticed have been local drivers, or have just driven within a day of their home. We hire them, and they are home once a week only, and I do their new hire orientation, paperwork, road tests, training, etc. I just want this list for that type of thing. It will be something I go over in orientation. They have the driving experience, but not necessarily years OTR for a week at a time.

What I'd really like to get is any unusual things that a driver has found to be a lifesaver, or helpful to have that wouldnt be so obvious.... the things that only experience and learning the hard way will "teach" you that you better carry on the truck. So, I can actually give something beneficial them. If anyones randomly comes up with things like that....please post them! This list will be "ongoing" as necessary.

    Everett Thanks this.

How about a cell phone? Good sleeping bag always comes in handy also. you never know when or where you'll breakdown.

I've got the cell phone under "Office Supplies" ......I will add "Sleeping Bag" to the list...but if they have pillows and blankets already...why would they need a sleeping bag too? If they break down, we foot the dime for a motel room if we have to...can you tell me more about that one?
