Read an article last year about a couple of college students that bought an abandoned parking garage and put 20 ft. containers in the parking spaces. Each container is finished on the inside like a hotel room with small kitchen, full bath, and other amenities. They set it up real nice with fresh paint on the outside, window on the end, sliding glass door for the entrance. Great idea and they followed through with it.

Im seeing dead malls. Lots of space. With a possibility of a revamped temporary type housing for those who require it. Maybe the State or City can work together with some sort of fund using this system inside a secure building that is actually functioning as part of society rather than rotting as a dead shell.

Get the space for 2 dollars a square foot too.

There is a developing ongoing series on ZH about this type of problem.

Nice! Seen an episode where this dude bought an old underground middle silo. It was pretty unreal. But some of these tiny houses cost as much or more than a regular house. Guess it's all what you're into. The fact that they are mobile and can basically be transported and dropped anywhere is cool. The ones pictured above look pretty pricey.

Terminix must hate steel container houses. The termites probably aren't too happy either.

By the time its all said and done, 8x20x8 might just feel like your still in the cab of a truck.

I'd probably add a empty gallon milk jug, just to feel at home.

Some of those stick houses are really neat looking. Saw one that was self-contained, except I'd ad a solar panel for convienence. I can dream of stretching out and taking a long Saturday afternoon nap in one of those.
The one I saw looked like this on the outside, but the inside was completely refurbished in natural wood and cast iron stove and cast iron cook kettle that hangs in the fireplace. He did ad a front porch though.

I'm considering something like a container home for our family cabin. It's an 1800s log cabin with an addition in the 1950s. It's on such a tiny piece of land, nothing bigger can be built there. It's grandfathered in due to existing wall locations, but the last estimate we got was for $100K just to bring it back to livable status. I still need to look into zoning, costs, and feasibility, but I'm pretty sure the deed can be transferred cheaply enough from family to family.

I've thought about adding high cubes they're 8.6 x 9 × __ to the 25x55 I have. a 17 x 30 (plus a over hang on the 17 ft side) addition to start with, its on the east side of this house,;its 55 ft ito finish it up complete is costly.,

after this, come around the back, throw in a dormer in the wasited space up top and use the containers as a deck.
