I live in Kansas City Missouri. Was wondering if anyone knows which training schools Crete accepts students from? Or does that matter as long as I attend a school. I have had my class A cdl for 17 years but have not driven in 15 years so I need to either attend the entire course or a week long refresher course. Also does anyone have suggestions of where I should attend to get good training and at a cheap price.
Thanks in advance

Crete's web site has a list of approved schools (it is a pull-down by state). Also, don't be afraid to call the recruiters - they are probably familiar with the schools that they hire from (very selective) and will point you in the right direction. I was just hired by Crete's reefer division, Shaffer, and had to fight my rear end off to get hired because I did not go to one of their approved schools.
Best wishes and good luck getting back into the Seat!!highspeed1972 Thanks this. -
I am a recent student graduate of a truck driving school in Houston, and landed my first job with Shaffer. I start next Wednesday. I was hoping someone can tell me where Shaffer/Crete's drop yard is in Houston.
All my recruiter could tell me was it was at some place called Equipment Exchange or Xchange, but did not have an address for them. I tried Googling, but got a bunch of different companies with variations of that name.
I called someone at Wilmer and was told it may be at Stewart & Stevens(on?).
I want to rent a storage unit close to the drop yard to leave my personal vehicle in while I am driving.
Can anyone help a newbie!! Thanks!! -
I believe it has to be a PTDI Certified school. At least that is what it used to be.

Thank you Too Tall,
I did call a recruiter and they pointed me to the web site which gave me the info. I emailed the one school that is nearby since their web site had no info. Have not heard back so I will call today. I know that Create seems very selective but they also sound like a good place to work. -
Highspeed,
Be ready to get the full inspection once you submit your application - they go through everything with a fine-toothed comb. Give them lots of time too; I submitted my app on 5/19/11 and just got informed to report to Wilmer on 6/6/11. Same thing with one of my trucking school classmates.
Good luck with your endeavors.

Congrats Wulfman!! Hope to run into you (figuratively speaking of course) one of these days.
How was the physical testing? I understand that they have you crouch and climb and lift weighted items. What was the heaviest weight they had you lift and how many times?
I have heard rumors that Crete/Shaffer does not allow the use of inverters in the trucks. I was plannin on using one to recharge my laptop and cell phone. If they are banned, do you know how I can recharge my electronics while out?
What kind of truck did they assign you to?
Enjoy, and drive safe! -
Inverters are allowed in the trucks. The most you are supposed to run is a 400 watt. I run my laptop or my tv and dvd player off it just fine.
