I have to agree not to be doing a week long job at lower pay than what i would normally get, if it came to do it or quit, i would quit, i have been there done that type of thing, its the employer and dispatchers or DMs that dont care about drivers and theres more and more companies not just crete that are being the same way. The trucking industry is getting more cut throat all the time, i know a few other drivers besides myself that have given up otr jobs, one a friend of mine thats done it for over 20 years and has worked at different companies, he said its just no fun anymore and the companies just dont care about the drivers. From sitting 10 to 13 hours and not getting detention pay to no idle laws and now walmart at corrine utah wanting drivers to surrender theyr truck keys to receiving while they wait for theyr trailer to be unloaded so they cant idle trucks,, not giving my keys to no one, sorry if i sound a bit harsh to some of you out there but thats how its geting to be.

Ya, my keys aren't going to anyone either. If they want, they can take my batteries, or just my oil dipstick, but the keys aren't leaving my hand. Shippers like this are one of the many reasons I enjoy flatbedding. Most are great, some are decent, and few are bad. This GP load had a form I had to sign and agree to and if I didn't abide by their policies, they'd take the load off of my trailer, escort me back on the property, and not allow me back.

I think you did the right thing. Companies do have local drivers for just the reason to cut cost. It has nothing to do about shopping at Wal-Mart it has to do about being an OTR driver. Per-Deim is another way to give it to the drivers ... the company makes it sound good ... Money that isn't taxed. If the goverment allows you so much per day then why would I want to drive for less money per mile.

With the 10 years that you have and then given the threat of (Do this or you must Quit) that in itself is bulls***.

Well, one way to deal with this problem is to keep a spare key.

I don't think the problem is not being able to start the truck, or not being able to get into it. When THEY drive the truck, they can have the keys. Until I turn the truck in, the key's mine, and I'll pull out of the lot before they touch my keychain.

Oh no, don't ask. Then they'll say they want them both. Don't mention the spare. Or, give them the spare and don't mention the other.

There are a few places that want you do give your key to your truck for 2 reasons.
1.) To prevent you from starting your truck and maybe pulling away from the dock on prematurely.

2.) The receiver/shipper tries to keep you from idling, keep in mind that all Wally-Mart trucks have APU installed on their rigs.

I have have a spare key (I always end up locking myself out of my truck). I give them the spare key. I also dolly down and disconnect my primary line. I've never have any trouble with any companies when I do this if I have to idle for a few minutes to cool down or warm up my truck.
