O.K. I can't hold it back any longer. Let me point out here that the female side also contributed many undesirables.
Let's just start with Madalyn Murry O'Hair. Bonnie what's her face of Bonnie and Clyde, Ma Barker, plus all those in prison for crimes against society or persons. Not to mention the one who started all of problems, Eve.
I have no axe to grind with females, I have 3 daughters and 6 granddaughters. It's just that there is no person male or female more likely to be a good president based on gender.
I personally think that Bill Richardson would do the best job of dealing with our current problems. -

And what is the bigger picture? The grand fact that freight is precious and truckers need to bend over?
After 10 years he hasn't taken at LEAST a few for the team?
I bow to your superior intellect... -

The powers have already decided who will be president.
They're just going through the motions right now playing the debate and primary game.
When "she" arrives on the scene, and it will be a she, like it or not, the green wave will be upon us. This wave will become the latest fab industry, just like the "dot com" industry of the 90s. Enjoy these final years of solo OTR driving, as overnight idling of big rigs will soon come to an end. This is my prediction, boys and girls.
I also predict that there will be fewer rigs on the road in the future, as railroads will begin pulling a lot more of the loads. Warren Buffet didn't drop all that money into expensive railroad stocks for nothing. This is money that belonged to others, and you know those folks are gonna want a return on their investement. Warren knows what's going down, boys, and has put his money where he knows those returns will be found. Follow his lead and drop your money in BNSF or Norfolk Southern. Better yet, drop it in Chinese stocks. China is predicted to have the largest economy in the world by 2025. I'd jump on that bandwagon, as it's coming through town, whether you see it coming or not. Communist China's coming full steam right at you, like it or not.
Everything is on autopilot, as it always has been, and there is nothing you nor I can do about it except see it coming and use that knowledge to our advantage. -
BTW, the one you chatised is right back here as part of it.
Any way you can delete the political responses and leave the (continuing) comments about my situation? After all, I AM trying to get a sense from others about my situation. respectfully, bb. -
Okay, okay. I guess you "own" this thread, so we can get back on topic, BB.
Yes, what Crete is doing in Sterling sucks, and I for one appreciate the heads up on this dastardly deed, but what do we do about it? If I'm a CCC driver, I can keep myself out of that spider web by refusing to go to Sterling. The problem is "what if every other driver refuses as well?" Eventually, all CCC drivers will be forced to take the Sterling detour when asked, meaning "no refusals". What happens next? Do those drivers have to quit? Do they suck it up and pray to Warren Buffet that they don't have to repeat it anytime soon? Sounds like a no-win situation for now.
You mentioned somewhere about doing this "twice in six months" or something to that effect. About once a year is what a driver can be expected to do the Sterling thing, meaning he's not standing up for himself if he gets called to the mat more times than what is fair.
Like I told you in one of my earlier posts, go back to CCC in a couple of weeks. They've gotten the message that you aren't going to play this game. A lot of other drivers aren't playing it either, meaning Crete will have to hire special local guys to take care of the Sterling white elephant. I'm sure there are many drivers around Sterling who would be happy to do it. Hopefully, your quitting, along with a bunch of other drivers doing the same, will make Crete realize pretty #### soon that it needs to get some local guys to Sterling and keep the OTR guys on the road. -
I doubt Crete could force any driver on the National fleet to pull sterling duty if they present Crete with their employment agreement that you sign on day of hire that says you are agreeing to work on the National fleet. I pulled my week in May and it was not mandatory at that time. -
Barney : I tried to argue that with my manager, but he didn't waver, so I was left with the option of quitting or taking days off anyway to work my complaint up the company chain of command - they were not going to dispatch me anywhere. Unlike how another driver portrayed it, you can't "ignore" the assignment and wait for another, they cyber/physically remove you from your dispatch board and place you on the Sterling fleet so there is no communicating with anyone except your manager or the Sterling manager. I decided it wasn't worth my effort.
Tip :
sorry, no offense meant, its just gettin tough to come back and try to sort out who's sayin what when the chatter goes off in another direction - I DO appreciate your comments earlier as well as today.
Crete backed themselves into a corner. They agreed to a dumb contract without having locked in local Crete drivers to support the effort. As word has spread, more and more guys complained of the duty and the pay, so they increased the pay from cpm to daily. But, the daily pay is still too little and to add insult to injury, they made it a 5 day mandatory assignment.
I'm clueless why they chose to make an example of me or why my manager failed to back me and work out a compromise. There was freight going south, so why not give it to me and sit me out at home for a 48 hour "penalty"?
Who knows. Two months ago the same manager talked me out of changing from his PA terminal to the GA terminal as my home twenty so I could drive SE. He said he thought I should stay with him and stay on national. I honored his request and then he turned his back on me.
Today is the irony.
While I would not consider returning to Crete, I went back to Shaffer today(I worked Sunflower / Shaffer '97 - '03). I told them the situation with my quitting Crete and they said they'd put me in a truck this afternoon if I wanted! I'm going to let a couple of other applications play out this week to see what pay is offered (I've already declined US Xpress and Averitt).
But seeing how good Acklie is, I will probably stay and go with Shaffer, keep my payrate, my vacation time, my benefits, etc, and join their SE regional fleet (I'm just cringing at the thought of running reefer again after 4 quiet years pulling a dry box, LOL!).
thanks again for your views,bruce.
