    Suzi...
I was a driver on the Wal Mart dedicated out of Sterling...I was paid .33 per mile for low mileage days....
You need to back off...from the driver who quit. You take what they give you to deliver and most times it was 200 miles into Chicago with traffic jams so you used your time up and didn't get squat.
You would get called in to work before your 10 hours off was done and if you refused you were threatened to be terminated.
I quit because of the low money there, the lying by the project manager in Sterling...and the poor maintenance shop.
And because of the poor treatment by Wal Mart management at the stores we delivered too.
So until you drive...do not criticize a driver.

Couldn't have said it better! And when you say the truck drivers are alone, you are right on! Most of that is because we, as a group, we are not a group. We are a bunch of selfish slobs. We are the most ignorant and lazy ppl, because we won't spend a minute to do what it takes to demand respect. And honestly... how smart does one have to be to turn a wheel? Obviously, not smart enough to look out for oneself, or the trucking industry, as it pertains to drivers. We are the bottom of the barrel for a reason. And therefore, no one wants to share our corner of the ring with us. Honestly... can you blame them?

I wouldn't say that. I feel I am very well paid to do what I do, and certainly can't complain.

    The management credentials of who?
I quit and bought my own dump truck and went into business for myself.
I too wish the truckers in this country would unite as a group.

That aint the answer! Look what the unions have done to the auto industry. Priced themselves out of a job and most Americans out of a new car.

Don't blame walmart, its these companies you are wirking for, walmart pays them really well, except they don't pass the wages to you. My company just lost the walmart contract in lewiston me. to ryder. Most of the drivers were home nights or days in between, worked wed thru sunday, same days off evry week and liked it,now they are on the road again not liking it,some quit and went with ryder as they wanted to stay with the walmart deal, all drop n hook,no manual labor or being gone all week. I think chicago area should be paying you guys at least a 1000,and really should be 12oo for just dealing with the traffic and construction. Yellow freight and holland are crying for drivers there,I run chicago almost every week to wi,at my convenience of time,i would never work or be forced to work. I talk to yellow trucks around there and one of their drivers said they put on bunch of new drivers and more predicted for next year.I think its 32 or 34 an hour right now. Best of luck to you,I would have quit as soon as they gave me that choice,i think you had every right to refuse as you did not sign your name to do that deal with walmart. Again, don't blame walmart, they take care of its drivers great, and also the other companies, its your companies screwing you,not walmart.

I think he was referring to the beginning of the thread where Suzi (CrazyMama) suggested I was wrong to quit, that I should have been a "team player" and bit the bullet to accept the forced assignment to the WalMart fleet.

    her comment :
It's not that I don't see your side. But you didn't say they are making anyone stay there a month on end. AND, you scrapped a 10 year gig for a couple of low pay weeks per year?

Maybe the company did bite off more than they can chew. And maybe they will let the contract run out and then not contract with Walmart again. But as a driver for Crete, I would have hoped you would have been willing to play ball.

They lied and for that I understand your frustration. But I'll tell you what my daughter tells me. She say's that she has lied about certain things because if she had asked I would have said no. Ok that makes me angry BUT.. she's right. If Crete is lying to get people to drive it's probably because they have a contract that they don't want to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars if they are sued by Walmart for not fulfilling their obligations.

But a few posts later she admitted she saw the points that we were making and understood my decision. I never got the vibe she was management, just unfamiliar with the idea that with seniority, there is a level of respect we expect from our bosses and that disrespect CAN override a drivers economic need to keep working for a boss.
