Me thinks it might be good to be in Indiana, ran 380 miles today. Got laundry done, hung out with an assortment of characters. One especially, a guy from

Somalia, although, he'd been here 20 years, He had a thick accent. Good guy and good stories.

    The weather is splendid here......

Until these high paying short haul loads start paying highly to the drivers, turnover will continue to escalate. And frustrated drivers will continue to post/vent on TTR.

I'm more concerned with total miles, but the short stuff just eats up too much clock. I've had my break from it now. I'll go home next weekend, probably get a nice run out of the house, then get sent back to PA!

I'm just venting so read at your own peril....

I've been on a killer load. I dropped in Omaha on Thursday and bob'ed to Lincoln to repower a load going to Tracy: 1660 miles. The load assignment said to deliver today at noon. I asked the AM on duty Saturday morning if this load could deliver ASAP and explained my hours to him. He said sure "go on in early". So off I go this morning to Kellogs in Tracy from the Lodi Flying hook. Sho nuff the delivery date is wrong. It doesn't deliver till tomorrow at noon. "You'll probably have to leave and come back" she says with a straight face. My face was not so happy! So the guard lady makes a call to receiving and says " we got another one of the Crete guys trying to deliver early".... oi vey! So we #### chat for about an hour it seems and finally they call back......drum roll please...."you can go ahead and drop it in slot 319.....happy dance! Then she says "there's just one thing, no MTs for you" It appears as though they're increase their MT count so we will be getting loads out of there again. "Fine by me lady" Drop and go!
I had a preplan to pick up on the Stockton drop yard so this saves me 30 minutes of drop hook time...happy dance. Now since this load is going to Oregon and since I did look in my permits book and this truck didn't have a permit for Oregon I was smart enough to qcom a request for them to fax one to the Lodi FJ (this was at 0800 CDT). My first fuel solution is Dunnigan for only 50 gal.s. So I ask if I could just fuel at Lodi for 50 gal.s and won't have to stop again. "no looks like it's cheaper in Dunnigan, please fuel there" :biggrin_25510: "it's only 50 gal.s but OK, thx" I retort. After hooking to my trlr in Stockton I high tail it to Lodi. It's 1100 CDT and I scale my load. Go inside and get my Cat and ask about my fax. "Nothing here sir"....no happy dance! A get ahold of the OPs mgr and explained it's been over 3 hours and no permit...."what did I do wrong?" He seemed genuinely perturb and asked "if I was still where the fax number he had" I told him " and BTW it's also where I need to get fiddy gals-0-fuel but if you read the note" he cut me off mid sentence and said get your fuel and "gimme 5 minutes and you'll have your permit" So I fuel then go inside and wait another 15 mins till the fax appears. By this time I was running very late. You see I had a plan to use up my 9 hours left on my 70. Sit tomorrow and leave at 0500 Tuesday to make delivery thus getting a 34 hr restart. Well that's all shot to hades because those darn mountains absolutely KILLED my clock! I lost a smooth hour of drive time.

So now I'm in Sutherlin, OR with 42 minutes left on my 70. I don't pick up any hours till Tuesday but I will have to leave before 0500 to make delivery near Portland so no restart. I think I will ask them to reschedule or repower if possible. I will get up at 0100 local to make on time delivery if I have to but...I get grumpy when I don't get my beauty sleep
