Yes, other than one very small company I worked for, that essentially had a private fleet, the rest of the company did not care to meet the drivers, or have anything to do with them.
I went to a few of the free parties they had and was treated well, and it was fun to meet a few of the people you talked to on the phone, but never bumped into in person, but this was not a normal OTR company.

Oh yes, the same company gave you paid holidays, sent you a gift certificate for a free turkey every thanksgiving, and usually gave you some sort of gift each xmas, with a company logo on it, but it was something useful and worth $50. WTF am I doing here?


At least Crete makes some sort of effort, although it's the typical trucking company stuff.
I'd be afraid to show up at a Crete party and expect I would find a roped off section 'drivers only'.
The office people could walk up, throw some xmas cookies over the rope, and snap pictures as the drivers scrambled for them. It sounds like another largish company I worked for who had xmas parties. I never went to one, but heard about them. The drivers who lived somewhere halfway close would show up, just to watch a handful of brown-noser drivers fight over smooching the management cheeks. (Not the ones on the face)
That might have been fun to see with a few free drinks in you.

 

Of course, the office people know each other, they're all in their own little groups, and are busy talking about how Tonn is a greedy prick and who Susie will go home with this year and then Tim the trucker walks up and says "Hi, how are you?"

It's their party, let them play.

If I was in Lincoln that night (and had plenty of time to kill), I'd be down at Lucky's partying.

Nothing. Make sure your tandems are at 40 feet, that you have no visible defects anywhere on the truck, and keep it under 63 and they won't bother you. The last bit is obvious with us.

 

That to me would be unacceptable. Why won't they allow you to be home for Christmas?

 

I also got a preplan to CA,1600mls 6 days with no t-call,responded N,and then got rewarded with a 300 miler.

 

At the Christmas party I'm going to ask Coulter and Tonn to sign my petition against driver-facing cameras.
Even gentlemen with control-freak, trucker soul-destroying tendencies can be reasonable, can't they?

 

my asset manager for Shaffer sent a message to everybody they'll get EVERYBODY home for the 25th and asked if there's anybody that wants to run for Christmas to reply to the message.
It was said people will probably be on a load with extra time but will go through their homes.
