I don't go to New England much, unless I put in for hometime at my secondary residence (i.e. my dad's place in New Hampshire). I think I've been to New England 3 times without requesting the hometime, in a year and a half. And I've always managed to make it work, without pulling my hair out looking for a place to park. Then again, I did live up there for 15 years.
But, that's just it. I have a secondary residence listed there, and most companies seem to try to keep you away from the house(s) until you're ready to go home. I suspect that without a secondary residence listed there, I'd probably be going up there a lot more often.xlsdraw Thanks this. -
of the Lenoir City terminal. I drive for SEC now.
The pay scale is lower but SEC is a much better
company to drive for. When you get tired of all the
BS and driving in the northeast give SEC another
phone call. This is a very good company to work
for. -
My next move will be out of OTR. Looking into some local or perhaps regional chemical tanker gigs. -

I dunno....I think this year, the absolute furthest north I've been is CT, and probably no more than two or three times. But compared to Schneider, that's nothing. Practically lived in the NE with them.
I suppose it just comes down to ones own experiences. -
I took an 11 cpm pay cut when I quit driving for Heartland I was making 45 cpm at Shaffer. I did
not quit because of the payscale. I thought both of these companies treat their drivers like they are morons. Crete/Shaffer is a glorified training outfit
Trucks run at 62 mph. The on guard radar that is wired to the breaks is a joke. Now they are putting
cameras in all their trucks. Why? Does this make you a safer driver? No, its because the lawyers that set the policy for this company are trying to protect themselves from lawsuits. I am now at a
company that expects me to know what I am doing and does not need to micromanage me like
I just learned how to drive a truck 2 weeks ago. I am making as much or more money as I did with
either of these super duper companies. When I go
home for time off I take as much time as I want
and the same truck is waiting for me when I return. They dont have a point system they use
against you evertime you make a mistake. They dont take days to repair your truck. They treat me
like I know what I am doing and that I have my own life outside of their truck and freight. -
I did not quit to avoid driving in the northeast. I did not like the way those companies operate. Im just
happy to avoid it. I have driven all 48 states and Canada. The only time I ever refused a load is if I couldn't do it legally. Back in the day I ran illegal plenty of times. I got wise to that game and stopped doing it. No paycheck is worth losing your CDL or going to prison. To me its just another one
of the things I like about SEC. I have been driving
a tractor trailer since 1995. Some of the companies I worked for all I drove was northeast.
If I never went up there again I wouldn't lose to much sleep thinking about it. I have a good enough driving record and they experience to get hired almost anyplace I put in an application.Last edited: May 23, 2014
48Packard Thanks this. -
Heartland doesn't count..LOL...BTDT. Can't make any money there at .60 cpm, so I understand ya there!
And while I'm not crazy about On-Guard or the prospect of cameras in the trucks, it comes down to $ and benefits. For now, for me, it's good. I'm not hassled like so many claim to be as I, too, know what I'm doing.
But then again, I'm not one to feel like just because a company decides to implement a policy that it automatically constitutes micro-managing. To each his own.Air Breeze Thanks this. -
Im not saying Crete/ Shaffer was all bad. Just not
the way I want to work. SEC suits me fine so far.
Like you say, to each his own.
