Hello all you great truckers. I am ready to go! Going to get my cdl from Wichita Area Tech and have apps in to Crete and TMC, both of whom told me to apply before starting school (does that sound right?). I have a few weeks (2 months) to decide, and there is always the chance I won't get hired by both, but what do you all have to say about Crete and TMC? I hear great things about both, but how do they stack up head-to-head? I realize one is flatbed and the other is dry van, so I actually have a seperate thread elsewhere on the site about the pro and cons of flatbed and dry van, but feel free to give me your opinion. Thanks!
Crete vs TMC

Well we have a lot of information about TMC in our part of this forum:
http://www.thetruckersreport.com/truckingindustryforum/tmc/
If you have any specific questions about TMC that you don't find answered there feel free to ask away. I check that section of the forum almost every weekend.

I may have posted this question in the wrong section. I have been reading great things about both companies and have a few questions, but I'll go find the right place to post them this time! Thanks for the great info Rawlco.

I won't say that you posted in the wrong place. Your question was about comparing two companies so putting it strictly in the TMC section might not have gotten you the input available here.
Of course I am the only responder so far, so it wouldnt' have been much different.Perhaps nobody here has worked for both companies so they can give a good comparison.

Both are better companies in the industry. The big differnce is van versus flatbed. Van is alot easier and you stay cleaner. Flat normally pays better but you sweat and tend to get really dirty in the summer while tarping and you freeze in the winter. Also frozen tarps suck. If you are at all afraid of heights forget flatbed. Good luck and I don't think you can go wrong with either. I do tend to think you get more miles in van because of all the drop and hooks. When you only have 14 hours a day to work tarping, securing and untarping could take more drive time away from you. Good luck

Well, I didn't read the rules of the section before posting, so I just thought the newbie section might have been better. Rawlco, you've got great posts in the TMC section. I have got to say, not only do I hear good things about Crete and TMC but they also have some of the best threads (rather addicting to my wife's despair LOL).

I would suggest you read the thread "CRETE - A year in Review". This thread will give you great insite about this company. Read it from the very beginning all the way thru. Will take you awhile but you will find it very interesting and most informative.
