After 24 years working as a nurse in nursing homes, etc.,, I would like to go to CDL school, apply to a company and start a driving career. I have been getting my DMV and criminal records history (yes, I do. felony level 4 in Ohio '87 and misdemeanor Ohio in '94). information from my local and state agencies rounded up. I have worked as a nurse since before my '87 troubles and continued up to present. Anyone who has worked in health care knows that your records are always checked prior to getting a job. Anyway, through the past 14 years prior to starting a new job, I have been fingerprinted by county governments to be sent to North Carolina's state criminal records and the FBI, and by Ohio BCI&I last year and just two weeks ago. This week, I received my Ohio BCI&I records which came back clean = no history. I cannot get my FBI copy unless I jump through some hoops, but have never been refused employment by (or fired from) previous employers for a nursing job after my FBI electronic or paper fingerprints were sent by a law enforcement agency or employer to the FBI.
I did go to my local police department here in Ohio, gave them my Ohio license and they do have my arrest record for the -94 misdemeanor, but not the felony and no convictions for either etc. I cannot remember if the misdemeanor charges were dropped after completing a program or not. I regress. There was/is nothing at the local court system neither. Okay, so first of all Yes, I have lied on my job applications and nurse license renewals these past 23 years. They have always been renewed. I guess I am just scratching my head and wondering why 23 years after my first offense, and 16 years after my last, why neither of these are showing up on my criminal history? If they have not and are not, why check or say "yes" on my application now afters 23 years of denial...denial..denial, and nothing coming back to bite me? Someone will say "be honest on your application." I would love to be honest; it would be less stressful doing so, but...........
Well, through the years when I have been honest during verbal conversations with a prospective employer prior to filling out an application, they would not hire me. "Sorry, can't hire you." Even after 23 years? I've been working all these years with no trouble. Well, I know, but sorry can't hire you." Each and every time I have kept my mouth shut, completed applications (while falsifying criminal history section -marking "no, never"), I've been offered a job, gone through the background check process, and never had an issue. Never "Say, uh, we had this come up on you, so...."Worked for these companies for anywhere from 2-9 years each. Never heard a thing. I say again, I would love to be honest with employers, but I've been employed 100% of the times by not being honest vs. 0% when I have been honest, "Honesty is the best policy", but if my criminal background records checks have always come back as "no records", why admit it to a prospective employer? Thanks for allowing me to vent.
Criminal record not showing up?

Yea...keep your mouth shut. BTW, have you talked to Wooster Motor Ways. I knew a guy that worked there and loved it. I'm pretty sure they had a training program. He was home every weekend.
Good luck. -
All you have to do if ask your local friendly police officier to run a NCIC on you.
It's free, and if that's clear.........................You're Golden !!!!! -
A recent trucking company said I had a clean MVR after I told them I had a ticket on my copy of a recent MVR from 07...They said they'll go with their findings...

You can keep quiet but just know the risk if you lie on a job application and get caught. You run the risk of that company placing a report on you that you lied on your job application and it's doubtful you'll ever drive for anyone.
I recommend that you answer the questions on the job application truthfully and no more. If they ask have you ever been convicted of a felony then you would have to answer yes. But if they ask have you been convicted of a felony in the past 5 years then you can say no. Don't volunteer information unless they ask.
Let me tell you what happened to me. I went to apply for a gun permit in another state besides NV and there was a question have you ever been convicted of a crime? I answered no because I really couldn't remember that I had a problem with a fight some 33 years ago. I went to court and paid a $100 fine and to me it was no big deal. Of course the police that handles the permits wanted to know why I lied on the application. They let it go because it was so long ago and really wasn't a big deal. But if a trucking company would have been the people with the application then a question of trust would come up and they would not touch me. So just be knowable on what you're going to do because you can jeopardize your whole driving career. -

I went to a link provided (Gov-Resources.com) and it only has listed a NC ticket from October, 2001, but not(?) a NC ticket I had in 2008. Besides, I don't feel these online websites are reliable. I did check my county court systems to, which does have the accident I had 1/13/2010 listed. (See below) I feel I have to worry more about this 2008 ticket (didn't come to a complete stop before turning right on red, but no points on my NC license) and my record of the accident on Jan 13, 2010, because I received a citation ticket for "failure to maintain control." I hit some ice on the road, literally causing my car to spin and drift left of center and being hit by another car. I was irked about getting that ticket, but hey, I was at fault. I couldn't/didn't maintain control when I hit the ice. Paid a fine, but no points on BMV. So, I have no points on my license, but these two tickets in the last 3 years are what I worry about, especially since the accident/citation was less than 12 months ago. Ahh, it feels good to bare all the skeletons in my closet, but hey you guys aren't who I have to deal with later. Oh, I certainly will not try to deny these two tickets when completing applications. Hopefully, having them won't sour the school and company I want to start at. Guess it will depend on their mood at the time. Geeze, I'm not an angel, but neither am I a thief, drug dealer, murdererer,or terrorist!

I recently submitted an application which asked if I had ever committed a crime. Well gee whiz, I did. I was honest and reported a DUI in 1989 and a marijuana possesion charge in 1974. When I spoke to the recruiter he said they couldn't hire me because of the 2 crimes. I said hey!! 21 and 36 years ago and you won't consider me now ??!! Well gee whiz
