Hi all!
This is my first post on these forums... I'm getting ready to do a cross-country drive from Southern California to Boston, MA and I need to know what the best way to avoid driving through elevation would be?
As far as I can tell if I take the I-10E out of CA, that should be good for starters... but I'm having trouble finding a route through Arizona and New Mexico that doesn't involve high elevation (4000ft and above). Is there a route through NM that is on the lower side? I know if I can just get into Texas, I'll be fine after that! (This is my 4th or 5th cross-country trip since I was a kid, (so, I already know most of you truckers are pretty great people!) but this time I'm driving with someone who has health issues at high elevation, so it's a little tricky.)
Thanks in advance!

just run 10 straight east to 95 north in Florida. There aren't any rough mountains runs in Arizona or New Mexico to worry about

I-10 to Van Horn, Tx. ---I-20 to Dallas, Tx.---I-30 to Little Rock, Ar.---I-40 to Knoxville, Tn.---I-81 to Harrisburg, Pa.---I-78 to Newark, N.J.---I-95 to Boston. Las Cruses, N.M. is just under 4000' as is El Paso, Tx. I could have swore Lordsburg and Demming, N.M. are around 6000'. You may want to do a search to verify, but any route further north is above 6000'.

just out of curiosity, why must you stay below 4,000'??
rocknroll nik Thanks this. -
On I-10, you'll have about 3 hours of 4000'+ up and down, from Benson, AZ to El Paso, TX
Benson, AZ- 3586'
Dragood, AZ- 4562'
Willcox, AZ- 4167'
Lordsburg- NM-4250'
Deming, NM- 4335'
El Paso- 3740' -
Thanks to everyone for the replies!! It's been so helpful and I really appreciate it!
Looks like we'll have some elevation no matter what... Thank you CondoCruiser for the specifics there!

You're welcome. Lol, I mispelled Dragoon. Most of the ride is not like sharp elevations. Just from Wilcox up to the NM state line is a couple big hills, but nothing bad. My mother use to be terrified riding on road trips. She would lay down in the back seat when she got scared. A doctor can make the trip easier.

My sisters best friend when we went on long road trips as a kid (10+ hours) was a shot of nitequil.
It would quite her right down, no more insane screaming fits cause her ears would't equalize pressure.TrashyTrucker Thanks this. -
