How do you handle logs when crossing midnight? Never done it before. I also have the pretrip checklist on my log sheet. When I cross midnight am I supposed to pull over and start a new log page? Do I do the pretrip again or do I just leave the pretrip blank until I start driving the next day?

For example today I came on duty at 2:45pm and started driving at 4:45pm. Taking my 30 min break right now. Plan to drive until 2am or so then start up again at noon tomorrow after my ten.

You only need to start a new page for the next day when you stop and change duty status from driving to Off Duty, Sleeper Berth, or On Duty.

You don't do another pretrip. Actually the check list is for your post trip, not the pretrip. I fill that out on the post trip.

Just as a example if you start at 9 pm at night you do your pre trip and start rolling after you pass midnight you would be required to do another pre trip.

Pennsylvania State trooper once told me I had to fill out an inspection form even on days the truck didn't move. The powers that be don't always know what the #### they are talking about.

You are NOT required to stop and fill out another inspection report. That report is to be filled out for each "trip". Not every 24 hour period.

Whatever DOT officer told you otherwise is a moron.

I just got a Full Dot done and crossed over from one day to the next and Not a word was said by the DOT officer about any Pre Trip. I do believe you have been fed some wrong Information.
