it's $340/wk and $140/wk, not monthly. That's what the payments are no matter what the truck is valued at. More expensive trucks will have a higher balloon payment at the end of the lease than cheaper trucks. As for taxes, I do my own bookkeeping and I have a trucking accountant that does my taxes. The load board has search options for radius or by state. It's pretty basic no frills. It gives origin and destination, paid miles, linehaul and fsc, and agent contact info. I actually prefer using the ooida board and I use the tools from the ooida board when getting loads from the crst one. I did learn if the FSC is not broke out on the crst load board your fm does not break it out. FM only breaks down broker loads. If a load on the loadboard does not have fsc broke out I will ask the agent to break it out or I just don't take that load. I think they will advance $.75/mi for fuel. They do not advance for DH miles but they will give you an extra $50 fuel advance if you ask. I got my truck with 1/4 tank of fuel so I always get the extra fuel money so eventually I will be able to fill every trip and have a surplus of advanced fuel money on my fuel card. Yes you get 2 comdata cards, one for fuel advances and one for pay. Keep in mind it costs $4 transaction fee for every fuel advance. After a couple settlements if you can afford it you can buy fuel using your payroll comdata card and still get the fuel discounts with no $4 transaction.
Gradigr how the.crst expericence going im thi.king of coming over there if u dnt me aski.g are u making mo.ey
In a way you're right, it just seems funny to have to pay tax on fuel for miles you ran in a state, but didn't buy enough fuel there. So, in a sense you're paying tax on fuel you never bought. You'll get money back from the states you over bought, but it's just a percentage, not the full amount. You have to watch it to, cause some states have cheaper fuel at the pump, but when you go to do your fuel taxes, you find out they have a higher rate, and end up getting you there. All in all, I never got hit that bad for the taxes, maybe $50.00 or so. Like I said,if you know you're running a bunch of miles in a certain state, just buy some fuel there, it'll soften the blow. Good idea to have your own plates, too. Cut as many ties with the company as you can, insurances, too. That's where I got burned, left Schneider and they told me my insurance was good till the end of the day ( I thought end of the month). I quit them and had my 379 ext. hood sold and delivered within 4 hours. I got the O.K. to schedule orientation with Malone, but just kinda still on the fence.
Gravdigr, are you making decent money and in decent i mean over 1000.00 after all expenses but before taxes. Is the potential there to make a cpl grand per week? Thanks for the thread and all the info.
I am not gravedigr but can answer you somewhat. There is no before taxes. taxes are only taken out of company drivers
Still gotta pay taxes bro. He's probably referring to before you take out money for your quarterly taxes Ethan
He ^^^^ is right. You will be paying your own taxes quarterly. But I think you are referring to what am I getting net after figuring what I will be paying in taxes. Honestly I can't give any real numbers yet. I've only really had 1 full week on a settlement, and that week only had 2 small loads on it because I had a big load I didn't get transflowed in time. Also my numbers wouldn't be indicative of what someone could make as I am inexperienced getting my own loads and made a few mistakes. I'm giving myself the first month where the deductions don't all kick in at once to work the bugs out, figure where I want to run, and just kind of get a system. Also, I'm trying to be home every weekend, which in general isn't that hard since it seems no one in flatbed loads or unloads on the weekends. But deadhead mileage home and back out eats profits a bit but it's a cost I will pay to spend more time at home with the family. As I go I will be tracking my numbers and posting some tips and mistakes to try and avoid in the beginning.
So how bad are the L/P trucks? Seriously thinking of signing on with my wife as a co pilot, maybe, lol
