    Don't know for sure, but part of the "They never called my dad" problem is they're really not supposed to. You're supposed to find your own loads or take the initiative to call brokers. Could be why he made it only two weeks.

    HA this is a funny statement! Do you honestly think he didn't call them..? Trust me he did and yes it is their job to call him when they have a load, why do you think you give them 25% for?. I know I wouldn't give a Co. 25% and I have to do all the work. Thats just stupid!

    Oh btw, it sure seemed to be their job to call my uncle....LOL.

    Try again...!

    Does crst provide paper logs or is it drivers responsibility?

    CRST provides the logbooks.

    And as for finding loads, I take the initiative to find my own loads. I'm not going to sit around waiting for an agent to call me. Sure sometimes I will get a call from an agent in an area I am delivering to offering a load out, but if not I am calling agents myself and checking the loadboard, and if I don't find anything I like I hit the ooida load board and start making calls like I did yesterday. Got my first broker load. Basically first you get the broker name and call your FM and they check it against a list of brokers they won't deal with (bad credit, previous non payment), Then if it's ok you contact the broker, negotiate your rate, have them fax the contract to your FM. Then the FM runs a credit check, if everything passes they accept the load and contact you with the details. The fm will also break out a fsc and any tarp or stop pay.

    I do not expect nor require any hand holding. If you don't like the 25% they take from the linehaul go apply for your own authority, handle your own permits, ifta taxes, drug screening, be ready for that audit in 18 months by fmcsa. Or you can look for another company to lease on to. I admit I don't like giving up that 25% but I'll do it until I'm comfortable enough to feel I can run under my own authority, secure my own shippers, or get in good with some good reputable brokers that can keep me running.

    If I'm giving up 25% the last thing I expect to be doing is having to hunt my own freight down of a load board! Especially with a co. as big as CRST...! If you call that hand holding then you also don't have much of a clue. It is their job to find you freight, that is what they are paid to do. Maybe you don't mind paying someone to sit around an do nothing and get paid for it, but I do.

    Another thing to keep in mind is some of the older truckers aren't so tech savy and don't want to be. Whats really funny is most on here never even trucked before computers/laptops, guess in those days everyone had to have their hand held to make any money...LOL

    One day when I grow up maybe I can be like all of you....LMAO!

    Thanks gravdigr
    My next question for you was how it to broker an outside of the CRST system load. I guess you answered that just pass the info to the FM and they will get the details for you that sounds simple. What did the log test at orientation consist of?

    I am not sure the 25 percent is for finding you frieght. I think it is for the authority you run under for the sales team primary liability insurance cargo insuranse the compliance department and the big thing paying you every week twice a week for crst it is not all profit for them either most agent get 8 percent some that do thier own billing like pittsburg might get 10 percentplus the front money for tags and permits and fuel. sometimes crst has to wait for 60 to over 120 days to get paid. I wounder if the mill that just closed in baltimore will ever pay them as the were way behind in paying all thier carriers so it is not a cake walk for the carriers either. Besides that being said they do not find you frieght they "offer" you frieght you decide if you want it or not. Correct me if I am wrong

    LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:biggrin_2559::biggrin_2559:

    Oh this is gonna be fun!

    Would you stop repeating yourself....LOL

    Actually this is part of the problem. Agents make between 8-12% of that 25%. The rest is almost profit for the carrier, so yes they are paid to do it and it is their job. I take it you have no idea what authority and insurance costs..... Its actually not that expensive and you can do it yourself.
