dnt have my own account yet, so I will just use my husbands. so here goes-
1. when you call a broker how do you go about asking he/she about the load? how do you start the conversation. I can sometimes be a little timid and just want to know how you all go about it.
2. what are the fixed expenses in the leases purchase? including the trailer, tags, insur, maint, etc. without the fuel. I know that's the main expense but ive got that.
just trying to run numbers on all of this and being that I will be home I can be doing a big part of booking these loads. my husband is experienced in trucking and Malone is a company we are looking at. he wants to get his own truck but needs more $ to get that done. he could buy now but wouldn't have what he wants in a maint/emergency fund to feel comfortable hitting the road. just in case something were to happen. so before all of you go and say dnt do the l/p, just stop. looking for good info here. thank you very much for your responses in advance.

Performance Bond= $2,000 which they take $25 per week
Plates, ifta and permits they take $75 per week
2290 Escrow= $21 per week till $550
Securement= $100 per week till $2250.00
Maintenance account= $125 per week minimum
Trailer rent= $185 per week
These numbers are WEEKLY expenses....
This is just some of the deductions you will have. This doesn't even include the truck payments they will take each week along with the insurance. Now they are on Eobrs so I don't know what they are charging the drivers for that crap.5thwheel23 Thanks this. -
I don't know a bout malone's expenses but you asked about" How to Talk to a Broker to book a load?"
Its very simple & it goes something like this A= myself B= Broker
ring ring
B= Heathen Transportation can I help you?
A= Hi do you have a Load from Abc To Xyz
Usually if they are good people they will let you in on the load info
If they put you on hold or send you to Joe blow extension # That is when you should start to be worried why?
They are looking up you caller ID and trying to see if this would be a back Haul for you Meaning they are fixin to sell you a cheap load
If you here these words "What's your MC # ?"..Or"what's your call back #?"...or What is your company name? in other words IF they are wanting to know more about you before they tell you what the load is? where the heck it is going and especially how much the load is paying Then you need to run for the Hills 99.99999999999% you will be dealing with the devil himself.
This type of training will take me days to teach you But always keep this in mind
When someone wants your info before they give you their info you just lost the edge see now they have your # and all your credentials such as your MC # and so on and just because you didn't take this cheap load that doesn't mean they can't call you later & offer you more of their Venom
Good Luckvolvodriver01 and 5thwheel23 Thank this. -
thank yall so much. I didn't know all of that casual trucker, but I did kind of figure. keep the info coming please. ie. more examples and maybe some more of a breakdown on the payments.

The truck payments depend on what year truck you get. During the months of march thru november the truck payments run $380 per week. From november thru march the payments are $125ish per week. Again this all depends on which truck they give. Don't forget the $5,000 balloon payment at the end.
5thwheel23 Thanks this. -
yea. hes not looking to buy it in the end. and prob will have his new, or new to him truck before the end of the lease.
-
does anuone else have any more fixed expenses that might be involved. thank you
-
Don't forget your insurances (can vary based on value of truck) and your Occupational Accident insurance.(workmans comp. for the self-employed).

What about the owner operators?

Qualcomm's are 12.00 per week and are now required for all new lease drivers and O/O. However, I think that is a small price to pay for a little security. They can't run you over your hours and because they send load info over it, you have something to fall back on as proof to what they say. Your maint. is actually dependent on the dispatched miles. You pay .12 cents a mile. But, for the first year, it covers that truck bumper to bumper. I say use it as much as possible. After the first year, I'm not sure of the cost, but it then only covers minor repairs. I'm not sure of the details, I'm not there yet....
Some state require more insurance than others, so you have that. I'm not sure why, but I know I'll find out since SC is one of them. A friend of mine that works there now and lives in SC says his weekly fixed expenses are 850.00. Actually, that would now be 862.00 since he opted to have a qualcomm installed even though he really didn't have to. He has a 2009 truck and gets about 6.5 mpg on average while running 65.
I recommend your hubby, if he likes being at Malone, finish the lease. Then he has trade-in along with his down payment on a prettier truck . And my wife plans to do the same as you, help find loads from the houselisamomof4boyz Thanks this.
