Hello all, I am scheduled to be in orientation on Oct 1st in Cedar Rapids, I have been out of a truck for a little over a year. The last job I had was local, and the few before that was OTR. So, basically my recruiter (Megan) told me that I'd attend orientation (3 days) then be matched with a co-driver, then put in a truck @.34/mile, then .36/mile after 2 months. My questions: 1) Is there any truth to that, or is she just trying to get me into the door? 2) What can I expect out of orientation? I've read thru the threads and have been to past orientations myself, but just like all trucking companies out there, you gotta seperate the good from the bad. I'm looking for honest responses, not disgruntled employees comments. Thanks.

CRST is a bottom feeder; go somewhere else.
Please..... -
Don't feed into the lies CRST tells you. You being out of a truck that long they will try to make you go to a refresher course. Which you pay for over 8 months. They will make you sign a contract for it. DO NOT DO IT! They are a joke of a company. Just like pete has said they are a bottom feeder.
They are also a all team company. If co-driving is your thing then have at it. Orientation is a joke 2 you will pay for your physical and drug screen, they don't pay for it. You will also pay for the bus ride up there. -
Thanks EtaN, I asked the recruiter if I needed to take a refresher course (after reading these forums) and she said "its completely up to you". I had a bad experience with my last trucking employer, I decided to leave them (First Fleet which is a dedicated contract company) after a health issue, and a quit under dispatch was placed on my DAC. I actually quit from home sitting on my bed, lol. So as a result of that and a few incidents that occurred while working for them (14+ hours/day 6days a week) was also placed on my DAC, and the only company that would even talk to me was CRST. I know what I'm doing out there and have been all across the country in all types of weather, etc. I'm just trying to get back into the trucking before I decide to hang up this CDL. I just wanna know what to expect. Do they pay you regular mileage while in this "refresher course?

I think if you do the refresher they give you "student pay" at .22cpm. I could be wrong on that. The road test is easy as cake though really man. It's like 2 or 3 turns around Cedar Rapids. Then you back in the yard. Seen people fail it miserably and still pass lol. Just another FYI, they force per diem pay on you as well. It's .10 mile untaxed plus if you make .34 its actually .24cpm plus the .10 for per diem is how they come up with your pay.

I went to CRST after being out of the truck for 18 months. I did not have to take a refresher but I did have to go back out for 28 days with a trainer. That sounds bad but actually they paid me what they said they would (.31 at that time) and I looked at it as not having to find a codriver. I did a year there and moved on. It isn't the best company out there but the miles are there, you just are gonna have to be able to deal with communication issues at times..but really that is no different than many other companies out there

Actually, I was kinda thinking they were gonna do that. Now after that 28 days, do you have to find your own co-driver, or do they? I'm just looking forward to getting back out there.

Wow. In 2001 I made. 26/mile with Swift and thought that was a joke. In 2009 I made. 34/mile with Jb and in 2010, I made. 43/mile with Crete. I wish Crete would hire me back. If I hadn't had moved I would still be with them. They wanted me to commute from Norfolk to Greensboro, NC every time I went back to the truck. Their excuse: they didn't have freight coming to the his area. BS. I've seen their trucks around here all the time. Wtf?
