What do most set their cruise control on over the posted limit? Do most officers understand the speed going down a hill and when do the start writing tickets? Every mile counts and if you drive a few miles per hour over the limit does it help?

No construction, good weather and light traffic I'm 8 to 10 over...
Most of the time you can get away with it but there are a few cops that won't let that fly..
Depends on if I know the area too...Boattlebot, Jeck, Tall Mike and 1 other person Thank this. -
You can run a 130 mph tractor trailer as I have and Lepton1 will arrive halfway through my evening dinner and sit down before I get finished for the day 600 miles down the road.
They did a experiment once, a cannonball truck at 100 plus where possible LA to Boston and another truck legal. The legal truck arrived in boston not too many hours after the cannonball. The time difference was negligible.
Cannonball had many incidents due to speed which risked the load while slowpoke mr legal had a handful if that.
The turtle wins. Always.
Speed Limit in towns? you stay under them. Unless you like tickets which will pretty quickly kick you off 18 wheelers as a way to earn a living. With most trucks governed at 62 or whatever, you need a team set in the same truck to bypass log hour limitations to double your mileage for the day.sealevel Thanks this. -
65mph is what I'm governed for. I get to pass tmc, swift, Schneider, and a few others, but only the company guys
passingthru69 Thanks this. -
You can pick up a little time by speeding but it doesn't amount to much. On today's shorter mileage runs it really doesn't pay at all to put your foot in it.
The way you make time...and money... is by staying in the truck. That means staying out of truck stops or at least minimizing your time there. Hanging around the coffee shop or the trucker's store swapping lies with the other drivers costs you money.
Maximize your time off. A ten hour break doesn't mean eight hours of sleep and three more hours doing your laundry and another hour for a meal.
Use your time wisely and you won't have to speed.Lepton1, otherhalftw, Jeck and 1 other person Thank this. -
I stop usually just once a day...my 30 minute break and fuel.Grab a sandwich to go and roll the rest of my 11...
Keeping that left door shut and even running 5 over you can cover some ground...DTP, passingthru69, REO6205 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Plus I'd rather not be surrounded by slow trucks all day long..TripleSix, Jeck, Loose Leaf and 1 other person Thank this. -
I've heard from several drivers that Michigan troopers have pulled them over for 1 mph over
-
I usually set mine about 105 over max speed limit
dngrous_dime, Lepton1, Jeck and 2 others Thank this.
