My truck did that. I have Detroit Diesel Diagnostic Link standard edition. But I couldn’t change it.
I had to get the dealer to change it, requires the professional version software.
At first we tried to shut off all three conditions that kill the cruise. They are the wipers, the headlights and the four way flashers.
The only way to get it to work was to leave one of them on. Seeing as if I have my four way flashers going I’m probably not to concerned with cruise control. We picked that one to remain in effect.
So now I can use cruise with either or both headlights on and wipers on.

It would be a bit of work to apply enough the right way to be truly effective for any period of time.
And then it needs to be renewed fairly often.
And, that is a big windshield you are covering - so get plenty of it.

The first time you apply it is the most important.
Clean the glass as best you can.
Then use a paper towel, several layers folded into a square, to apply the Rain-X.
Use a circular motion, and rub it in good. Use a good amount, don't be stingy.
There should only be a light glaze look to it at the end.
As the paper towel becomes soiled from the left over grime in the glass, turn it over and fold it inside out for a clean surface.
Then polish the glass with a clean cotton cloth. I always used an old t-shirt.

Then do it again, twice.
That will give you the perfect coating of Rain-X - for a while.
Even small droplets of water will just stream off, if there is airflow in that area of the windshield.

After that it will be just a once over when the droplets become too large or sluggish.

Using wipers will degrade the coating, and a bug splat will destroy it in that spot.

Easy with a small car, like my old Honda CRX.
Not so easy climbing up for the truck glass.

They sell it as a window washer additive too so you can add it to the reservoir and have it apply itself as you use the wiper fluid... doesn’t treat the entire windshield but the parts that it misses are not looked through anyway... so this will save him from having to climb on top of the engine.

There is usually no need to get off cruise control with a light drizzle with the wipers on a low intermittent setting.

Strap a midget to the hood, and give him a squeegee. Whenever you need the windshield wiped, just hit the button on the remote to activate his shock collar.

I drive a Freightliner cascadia and it's a company truck. My only issue with it that drives me crazy is that it wont let me use the cruise control when I activate the wipers, even on the lowest setting. I know about the washer spray trick but it's such a pain to keep pressing it everytime. Worst part is my truck is governed at 65 on cruise and 62 on pedal. Does anyone know a way to trick the truck in using the cruise control while the wipers are on?

I know it's a safety feature but with modern day trucks it's a dumb unnecessary system. Company wont remove it I asked.

Serious replies only please if you dont agree with me that's fine but I really cant stand this feature.

I absolutely hate that ... I know it's supposed to be a safety feature, but I find that it makes matters less safe... With cruise off, I have to divert much more of my attention to the speedometer (company monitors speed over the speed limit), meaning less time with eyes on the road ahead of me.
