That’s what happens when the parent company files for bankruptcy and is on the hook for $4.5 million dollars in fuel bills.
    Bunker fuel/fuel oil ain’t cheap!!lol
Crystal Cruises is a subsidiary based in Miami and as such, the creditors filed suit for the seizure of the ships under U.S. admiralty law. The judge issued the warrant January 22nd so the ships were on the run for 2 weeks.

And I guess they must have been lying to the crew. Which I imagine would be a substantial amount of people?

There has to be more to this. US Marshalls don't chase people down who don't pay their fuel bill regardless of big it is.

While true, they do chase down people who tick off a federal judge, which seems to be the case to me.
Ships were likely ordered to return to the US, and the owners refused. Ignoring a judge tends to annoy them.

One of the services the US Marshals are involved in is ASSET SEIZURE-which was the case here! US admiralty law applies in this case because the company that owned the ships was headquartered in Miami, and as such was subject to US jurisdiction.

It’s not the first time the Marshals have seized assets-25 some odd years ago they seized a Boeing 747-400 being operated by Philippine Airlines at LAX that was preparing for a flight to Manila. The plane was leased by Philippines Airlines from US Exim(Export Import)Bank. At the time the airline was financially struggling, to the point where they defaulted on the lease. And as such, under US law US Exim went to federal court to get the plane back. The plane was registered in the US which made the plane subject to US jurisdiction. The marshals told the captain of the plane the plane was being seized, all the passengers were disembarked off the plane, all the baggage was unloaded and the plane was locked up right there at the gate, they even put a chain on the steering yoke of the plane!
