Again, go with a company that trains you and wife together, at the same time, in the same truck. Team with the wife for 1 - 2 years, then buy a truck.

Any and all questions are accepted. Hopefully I will be able to answer if not I will not lead you a stray. Actually I think you are in the right direction because you came here. TTR is a good group of people, we are basically like one big family and I still turn to the forums to ask questions or get answers. People share their hard earned experience and give good advice. So welcome to the family and weather you become truck drivers or not it has been my pleasure sharing my experience with you.

You definitely gotta find the right driver, and give them the right training .

most companies do two or three weeks of training , Lexus said they do a minimum of 36 weeks of training before they are allows to drive .

ten times as much training , If my math is right .only the guys that really really want to learn heavy haul are going to do 9-12 months in a truck with a trainer, at half pay.
That alone filters out almost everyone who wouldn’t make a good heavy haul driver .
Check their credit and criminal and driving history, if they can’t manager their money , and can’t stay out of jail and can’t obey traffic laws in their personal cars , then you don’t want them doing heavy haul, and that filters out the rest,
I’d say the background check and the almost a year of training at half pay combines to eliminate about 99% of potential drivers .
So you’re left with guys who really want to learn what you’re offering to teach them.

It’s not work you can put somebody through a course and turn loose on. It takes years even when you start with someone that already knows how to drive. You can drive for 10 years with 5 axles at 80,000lbs and it means nothing the first time you let the clutch out on 170,000lbs. You’re a green driver again.

You both need a cdl and some time running team to make sure this is what you want to do. Team driving sucks until you get used to interrupted sleep on the lousy roads. Don’t buy anything until you have had time to really figure out the business. You can thank me later when you realize it wasn’t that great after all and don’t have the $3500 month truck payment. I’ve been at it for 42 years and there ain’t no way I’d do that myself.

    Exactly

And exactly how are the drivers supposed to get that experience ?
There is only one way .
Getting behind the wheel and letting the clutch out under the watchful eye of an experienced trainer is the only way I can think of .

You not notice what happened when freight companies started “training” drivers that way. You have people that have never driven a truck with three pedals in it, maybe 3 years experience and they’re the driver trainer. It doesn’t work that way there either obviously. Add to that the fact that any heavy haul operator that you’d want training people, wouldn’t work for a Mickey Mouse ######## outfit that operated like that in the first place. They’d take one look at that ####show and run. I have a hard time seeing any good come of it. Swift quality drivers loose with low beds is lunacy.

We were literally just watching youtube videos about running teams in expediting before I popped over here ha. That is actually what got me interested in trucking about 2 years ago
