    Bull pucky,

If the owners were held responsible they would make it their business to know. And the technology is now available for them to know almost EVERYTHING... without even being there.

Yes, the driver does have the power to keep subpar equipment off the road. However, the owners have the power to find someone else that will drive the subpar equipment. If they were held as responsible as the driver of say, a fatality due to the subpar equipment... My bets are that this would stop this type of owner from doing this, knowing they may also face jail time.

Lastly, No matter how safe we think we can make the equipment... Guess what, there will still be accidents. It's just the way it is, perhaps instead of always looking for blame in these such cases... and some may be tragic. We could face the reality that they are just what they are, accidents... with NO malicious intent.

I disagree. What most people term an accident are in fact a result of decisions people make while driving.

Are there very rare instances were barring spectrograph examintaion of all metal components the person had no idea a failure was imminent. Sure there are. But I would hazard a guess they make up less than 1% of accidents.

You hear it from people all the time. Oh they stopped short, geez the road didn't look to bad, I was just watching my mirror, Maybe I was a little fast, It was only a couple beers, They should have seen me, Who can control the wind..........

All pitiful excuses for the simple decisions they made.

So you think people just overlook things/decisions because they are hell bent on having an accident? The intent to cause an accident is there because they decide to have one... This is insane.

This leads to another term: Mistakes. Yes, people make mistakes. Short of driving while intoxicated or attempted suicide. I'd say the majority of accidents are made by human mistakes/errors. It can and does/could happen to anyone. Perhaps, stiffer penalties should be issued to people that assume they are perfect and NEVER make a mistake/error, because they pre-ordain their intent on an accident. hmm?

Just read some about the CSA points and got a laugh, it is 1 point if you do not have a medical card but it is 2 points if you don't have the main terminal address correct. Sure is all about safety huh.

4 points for not speaking ENGLISH!!! Atleast they got one thing right in all of this!!! LOL :D

    Just for the record.

    Accident definition:
    a
: an unfortunate event resulting especially from carelessness or ignorance.
    Source, Merriam Webster Dictionary.

Although my definition has always been the same as Tazz's....I know know I was wrong. Never admit something was an accident, a lawyer somewhere is waiting to use it against you.

    Just for the record:

    Accident Definition:
(noun) 1. An unexpected ir undesirable event. 2. Something that occurs unexpectedly. 3. A property or attribute that is nonessential. 4. Fortune; Chance.
    (Source American Heritage Dictionary)

Lets also look at your source:

    1
a : an unforeseen and unplanned event or circumstance b : lack of intention or necessity : chance <met by accident rather than by design>
    2
a : an unfortunate event resulting especially from carelessness or ignorance b : an unexpected and medically important bodily event especially when injurious <a cerebrovascular accident> c : an unexpected happening causing loss or injury which is not due to any fault or misconduct on the part of the person injured but for which legal relief may be sought d —used euphemistically to refer to an involuntary act or instance of urination or defecation

    3
: a nonessential property or quality of an entity or circumstance <the accident of nationality>

Seems you forgot to add these other meanings for your source

No, one rarely uses more than one definition for a word at a time. Besides it was the one most closely relating to the subject at hand. I assure you though it makes no difference what one you choose to use all that matters in a conversation is what the other party "thinks" it means.

To me an accident is something that you could not have seen coming: As in hitting a spot black ice, a large gust of wind on a calm day pushing you over into the next lane, a mechanical break that you wouldn't have expected.....to me it is just pure negligence when you hit someone because you were looking at your phone instead of driving. You may accidentally cause the crash but that does not make it an accident, it makes it a crash.
