    The good old days.

Long ago I had a minor violation at the NB scale in Virginia. Went upstairs and paid the cashier on the spot. It never appeared on my driving record.

Good read for anyone unfamiliar with Data Q but kinda one sided regarding the routine.

The Data Q goes back to the issuing individual but starts higher in the command structure so the individual's boss is passing it down along with his opinion.

I was using Data Q from it's beginning until I retired with an overall .500 average success rate.

HOWEVER, I was sitting at a desk and reviewed the information I was given and sent a few out that probably didn't have much chance of success and when I gambled; I lost!

I can say that any obvious documented inequity was quickly changed which happens when the next monthly SMS reports come available.

My toughest success involved an overweight in Alabama involving an owner operator who skipped and was caught still displaying our DOT number pulling for another company.

The lease termination and copies of the terminal manager's emails were not enough.

We dug into the port's system with the container number and got the SCAC of the responsible carrier.

Still not enough; I had to contact the people who issue and maintain the SCAC and identify the carrier.

Perhaps that inspecting officer never intends to take the detective exam.

NY state police pulled me over for using the left lane to pass but the lane was not restricted and I wasn't speeding.

He noticed my truck didn't have a NYHUT sticker near the front license plate. He asked for a paper copy. I had neither. I was hauling military HHG and it's exempt from the HUT taxes.

He wrote me up for it. I showed him the BOL but he did it anyway. I fought it through DataQ and of course he claimed it was lawful and his supervisor agreed.

I had to contact the local fed office that oversees the process to finally have it forcefully removed. I was shocked this took place at all. The process is a scam with no real checks and balances.

I've found the NY state inspectors to be well trained regarding vehicle safety and Haz Mat stuff but an exemption to their money maker [HUT] might not be included.

New York [and New Jersey] enforcement tend to cite everything and let the judge sort it out...

My easiest Data Q was over removing an accident on the New York State Thruway because I thought a wild turkey's 'suicide by windshield' was not a DOT reportable motor vehicle accident.

I had a response the same day and it was removed.

The township that he wrote the ticket in just had me send in a copy of the BOL and they dismissed the ticket but that loser and his supervisor held on to it for dear life! Ultimately, I got it removed thanks to the feds but I learned the hard way what a lie the DataQ process was from the ordeal.

That sounds awfully easy to wind up getting stonewalled. Did you have to convince some pencilneck dweeb who was probably offended at having his game of Candy Crush interrupted that you didn’t have nefarious intentions?

I expected some resistance but after my explanation the lady who answered gave up the name associated with that SCAC without any problems.

The agency that issues the SCAC must get public requests for the ID of various SCAC companies as every transport company has one.
