I wonder if those car racks were loaded

Trains getting a bad rap lately. The UP posted a profit of $9.9 BILLION last year, and what was "emergency mode"? Don't trains just plow through the obstruction? I bet there's more to THIS story,,,,
bzinger Thanks this. -
They usually try to stop, but momentum makes it impossible, they can take a mile to stop from normal running speeds.
Probably some sort of equipment/track failure from all the strain caused by the braking force. -

Not too many ways a train can "avoid" colliding with something on the tracks. CdlLife and their clickbait headlines again.
blairandgretchen Thanks this. -
Either way I wouldn’t want to be the trucking company or the driver involved. That’s going to be an expensive cleanup job,not to mention the personal vehicles and the building that was hit when the derailment occurred!

blairandgretchen and kemosabi49 Thank this.

Surveillance cameras caught the derailment. Note the DPU(locomotive) passing by. This was a heavy long train. Power pole was also taken out!!
