yes it is otherwise a good company but i've talked to several drivers with different companies in the last year or so researching this career change and they all, to the last one, who drove autos then tried to go somewhere else, were required to do refresher courses due to not having any (recent) stick time in a manual....now, i don't know what kind of gear changers they were, before or after, and whether or not it was a proficiency issue or just company policy for the companies they went with after driving the auto....but it just sounds like too big a chance to take when looking to go to another company if the experience with CT didn't work out....and after riding with some of our other students....the auto probably will be the best choice for them....but i'm older than these kids i'm going to class with and to me a truck has a gear stick, not a button on a panel. you're absolutely right that for some it will be the ideal company, but based on what my long term plans are, my reasons for passing on them are totally justified.

I agree with trashtrucker,if you know how to shift to begin with then there should be no issue. I drove an automatic for a year ,got out of a truck to do local work for 10 months and decided to go back otr and hired right on with a company driving a 10 speed. No issues or refreshed courses needed.
truckin4u3788 Thanks this. -
Yep, I just had a recruiter come to my school. They are all autos, Seems like a decent company. The tractors or Macks.

The guys in Brunswick love their job. They had no complaints about the flat tops. I don't plan on standing much anyway.

Ok here's what i know because i ran for them back in 2005-11/2007 they were starting to come out with the auto's because as luck would have it i got one because mine was having coolent problems seems was a cracked block so they said here's a new auto and let us know what you think.
Auto's are great in rush hr traffic thats all. you can also switch them over at anytime too shift if ya want.
also if your backing under a load then you have too power brk them because you'll have too build tork too get it rolling backwards.
Fir those looking into CT i had a good DM and he knew what i wanted and he could always depend on me,back then my pay was .39 loaded or mty but i see things have changed.
now for the drop and hook they run alot of Gypsum Board also called Sheetrock out of Palatka, fla. and also bridgeport,Al all USG companies and yes all are pretarped you'll have too finish with bungies and your straps.I also will say getting home wasent an issue but i always stayed out 3weeks then came in for 2off then out again. overall i had no complaints .
The reason i left was the old safety guy left and went too Tandem Transport outa Michigan,In and offered me more money and i took it i will say this i made more money with Tandem transport than i ever have with any other company several times mine groess was 1500.00 take home 1300.00 wk.
Their also a good Flatbed company good equipt. and no auto.s
Well good look Wacodaddy2twins Thanks this. -
Well I've been with Ct Transportation for over a year now, and still they are a great company to work for, youll go home every weekend no joke. They are now all automatics but as some of you said, if you've ever driving a manual shift then you never forget it and you can transfer to any company with out taking a refresher course, most drivers just choose to do so before there back out on the road trying to not miss any gears, the down side is, there are some bad drivers in the fleet not many but they are there, Ct rollover rate is high, we still pull 45' spring axles which are dangerous, and the empty pay is not so great. You can expect an average of 2000 miles a week, the fleet has been mostly upgraded to new 2014 international pro stars, most of the macks are being turned in, they were the workhorse of Ct maybe they'll go back to them one day, and also you can expect to tarp 60 to 70% of your loads, they have a lot of drop and hooks but that dong mean you'll get them all the time, like I said they are a great company I don't complain I just put it in the road and get it done. And im treated good. Any questions feel free to ask
