Sounds similar to my c12s power. Try running at 1300 rpm's, it should pull most hills and let the rpm go down to 11 and grab another gear. Winding out the motor doesn't help at all if I'm heavy, it just gets thirsty.

I realize you are driving a Cummins, but Detroit is echoing much of the same information.

Heavy trucks are now going through the same "growing pains" cars did in the 70's/80's. The introduction of the EGR, the Cat converter and the electronics. It's gonna be fun to experience these advances like the cars had. I hated the issues the old electronic carbs had.

my experience is the same as yours and i run over 100k lbs

i do think 450hp/1650tq is probably under powered for running that heavy however i don't see why running the motor out of its peek tq would make it accelerate that much faster. a re flash with a different program may help. or possibly something else is not right.

personally i think 100k and over is best suited for min 475/1850 not that less wont still get the job done but its not a enjoyable drive. at least rat has a 13 speed. i drove a 2006 450hp isx unsure of the tq spec for a while a few years ago hauling heavy with a 10 speed and that was down right miserable to drive. of course the fact it was a Volvo didn't help...lol

new motor on winter fuel to boot power will come up a bit when motor breaks in. that motor pulls fine with 1ooooo in bc on 6 percent plus grades give it a chance to break in

I don't have a problem getting up to 55-60 mph for the most part. It is that last 5 to 8 mph that is a killer. Without some type of chart to look at, I am thinking that I am past my power peak and power is dropping off to less then optimum power levels when trying to get that last 5-8 mph. Now if the truck was turning lower rpm in the top hole then it is now then maybe it would not be as bad. Only way to change that is with different gear sets in the rear ends or adjust the power level on the truck to a higher rating. Hard for me to explain it without some type of chart to show the power curves vs rpm and mph.
