I have a 2008 peterbilt 388 with a cummins isx1 . When I first got it came with all the new emissions except def. Ive had the truck for about 9 months now I deleted the dpf, egr, and the eletronic actuator on the turbo. I have a bully dog turbo on it now. I have about +150,000 miles sense previous owner overhauled it. My question is I am doing oilfield work now so a lot of the time I am having the truck in idle truck is turned on almost 24/7 I put about 2300 miles a week the rest is idle during the day when it gets pretty dam hot I live in Texas and stay only in Texas weather. When I have to wait to unload let' say 8 hours or few hours should I idle my truck to a higher rpm . Right now when idle for a long extended amount of time i idle at about 620 and my oiltemp stay at 180 coolant stay at 170 and oil pressure stays at 20 should i idle up to a higher rpm like 900 my oil presure goes to 30ish ? I don' spending more on fuel I am making decent money so it squels out to me but I am more worried on the life of the engine will it affect if I leave it at 600 all the time when I am idling on a extended amount of time thanks any input will help . Also do you guys have a any experience with apus will it be worth it to invest in one new or used ? Anything to look out for ? Especially sense we have elogs coming up and you have to do a 10 hour reset you know what I am trying to say thanks
cummins isx extended idle

Never idle and engine that long. Yes, bump it up to 900 to 1100 or so.

Yeah, about that. Sounds familiar. I don't get into that too much.

Best investment I ever made in trucking. Remote start, you can get 14 hours on 3 gal of gas. $399 shipped to my door.
Get a room AC unit (dual hose not single) and a little plug in heater from Walmart ($15). I carry a 6 gallon gas can in my headache rack and the generator in a side box now. I have an ISX and bump it up to about 750 rpm. That usually get the oil pressure up to about 30 lbs. I avoid idling like the no ones buissness. I have run a few weeks without my gen and I cost me about 1 mpg to idle for the week (1800 miles 6.68 down to 5.5) as opposed to less than 10 gal a week in gas 4 long nights a week.

Cord runs up to a twist lock plug with air hoses and light pigtail. It’s in a regular tarp box (24 x 60) can’t even hear it running. I have it bolted in the front left corner so it swings out to fuel up. No problems with DOT. I think you can haul 60 gal or something before it’s an issue? Of course it’s all out of site now but never even questioned when it was on the catwalk. I think it has to have a fuel shut off (it dose)in order to be compliant.

If I bought a brand new Truck I’d buy it with an APU. But I wasn’t going to spend $10k on an apu to put on my $10k Truck.
It stinks to have to carry gas at a truckstop but it’s good to get out and walk around?
People are having great success with the Honda 3000? They are about $1900 though.
I like mine has a remote start. So if I don’t run it but wake up and it’s cold I just hit the button and I’ll be warm in 2 min and I didn’t burn gas all night.HopeOverMope Thanks this. -
IIRC it's 8 gallons of gasoline in jerry cans if you don't have a tank on the frame rail same as your diesel for it. Before dot can do anything about it.
Idling that much excessively will severely shorten the life of your engine. With mine and it's emission stuff intact i figure it burns about 1.5 per hour. No fuel needed for dpf probably closer to 1.0 per hour. There are lots of threads for alternate air conditioning systems on here and homemade setups.Cristianramirez Thanks this.
