My cummins ISX 832000 mile will not stay running it will start but then shut down. You can start it rate back up but it will shut down like you turned the key off. New filters & clean all posts on battery. was not having a problem when I parked the truck friday went out today to start it up and now I have this facing me. There is no way I could make it to the cummins shop it wont stay running long enough. It will rev up but no matter at 1600 rpm it will shut down, Got it warmed up to 160 still shut down.

Don't know anything about cummins but with my cats, they are set to shut down if low on coolant or oil pressure. I had an oil pressure sensor go and that is exactly how it would act. Start it up, run for 10 seconds or so (until the ecm recognizes that the oil pressure isn't coming up I suppose) then shut down. Low on coolant, same thing.

Should have code for low coolant or oil pressure if that was the case i would think. But I show normal oil pressure and the coolant is full. The only thing that been going on is the davco filter is turning black and I have to change it more. Never had to change before a service at 20000 miles. Still this not shutting down the truck. The only guess I have come up with is the fuel pressure senor.

Check the fuel selnoid wire to see if it loses power uou could aslo have a failed fuel selnoid

If the fuel solenoid loses power it could mean it is being shut down, if power (voltage) remains the solenoid is probably bad.

I had one quit on me, thought it was the fuelfilter, it kinda was, but that didn't shut it down, there was a bad level sensor in the coolant tank, bridged the connector plug with a paper clip and got it back to the shop.

    Good luck .

Well just got back from cummins 274 dollars lighter. It was the plug that goes to the exhaust pressure senor had shorted out. 22 for plug 15 for wire kit and 210 labor and the rest shop supplies and tax. Just glad they found it and it fixed.

Guess what they did not get it fixed. Just sat all day at cummins again with two techs and a cummins rep that just happen to be there. At the end of the day they back out saying they could not find any thing wrong. It quit 18 times according to computer with fc 187 which is all senors failed. They put a new intake pressure senor on it just to throw a part at it. Guess it my turn to throw parts at it. I was thinking the fuel pressure and cam senor to start with. Any other ideals. This is what cummins is doing. I have cleaned all ground wires to engine and frame. Cummins checked all plugs and wires to all senors. It will still quit in the morning for about 30 minutes by the time I get to cummins it running fine. Very afraid to leave on a trip till this is solved but going broke sitting at home.

Yep the code tells what the problem is, shorting of the voltage supply to six sensors, one of them is the exhaust pressure sensor. The tech should have checked the cam position sensor, Fuel Rail pressure sensor, intake pressure sensor, Exhaust pressure sensor, EGR position sensor and the EGR differential pressure sensor by running the engine, unplugging each one and see if the fault returns when it is plugged back in. It seems if this doesn't fix the problem, then the harness is suspect and should be changed.

I agree with this. The only issue with 187 is for sensor supply #2 which includes the cam position sensor, not the engine position sensor. With the loss of the cam sensor the engine will derate, really shouldn't shut down. With the loss of the cam sensor the ECM relies on the engine position sensor and vise versa. The Engine position sensor is a separate 5 volt supply for this reason. Where there any other codes? Also, is this a DPF engine?
