Yes it does alright at higher rpms. But I would like more mid range. Like 20-30 mph winds. And I have to hold it to the floor to hold speed and a large gust of wind will take me from 65 to 55 in a heartbeat. I went from a 12.7 slowtroit to this so it’s miles better but I’d like to get a little more without taking life off of it

Sounds like something wrong with it or it's not a 485. 20 mph wind on flat ground? 485 N14 should handle that for a joke.

That was what I was told. The guy also told me it had 300k on it and 100k later I’m replacing injector cups. How to do insure it won’t fret? I’d like to get a pittsburgh on it and have a 600 hp cummins. After I install the new 18 speed of course. I have the 1780 drive shaft (the largest in commercial vehicles) so I’m guessing someone swapped in the crappy 9 speed with the motor

I think I would take it to my dealer and hook insite up to it. See if They can figure out the hp & t settings . Maybe try a few different ones to see what works. Keeping the hp reasonable seems to preserve the block

You do not want a factory program unless its original. The have to upload low nox emissons file. This is why its a slug. 435hp 1650 tq. w/out and 525 1850 tq. w/low nox I was not impressed, did gain .5mpg. Now 625 2250tq. w/out and its a monster but no mpg increase. First of all its a high performance engine, no extended oil changes, pull oil samples, and dont mash the pedal, The fretting wont be a problem. If you ever over haul it. Line bore the crank and will never have to worry about fretting. If you put main bearings in make sure you plastia gauge them. Need a dyno test first. You want to make sure its healthy before turning it up or its no good. Check air to air for leaks, install pyrometer gauge and boost gauge. These are your new friends. Its a job to drive one and monitor everything. If you just slam the door and look out the windshield a high hp engine is not for you.

Any shop with a decent scanner can read the ecm and tell you the setting. First thing a dealer is going to say is you need the latest file.

I service every 10k with the good oil, and while I do mash it here and there, she’s my girl. Take care of her, and she’ll take care of you

Just fyi, 1780 in not the largest or heaviest driveline.

1880 series or a spicer life spl350 for on road trucks would be about the heaviest duty.

Never heard of a 1780, did you mean 1880?
