Hi All
I have Cummins N14 Celect Plus - 14L - 1995 ish - cold idling rpm problem ( in a Freightliner FLB )
Engine starts and idles around 800rpm ( ish ) - then it appears when compressor turns off pressure alarm - or around that timing - rpm increaess to 1000 rpm and stays there - will not come back to the 800rpm. This would be around approx 5 minutes ( ish ) of idling.
I am guessing its a faulty sensor?
Anyone else had this problem?
Apart from that - engine appears to perform normally.
Truck has been sitting for quite a while - if that helps.
Thanking you in advance - any feedback would be appreciated.

What is idle set at? If it returns to lower RPM after warming up, i would think it's in the ECM programming for cold mode.
Honestly can't remember ever seeing a 14 with a cold start change in the parametersOxbow Thanks this. -
Hi and thanks - idling does not return at all - thats the problem - it stays at 1000rpm which makes it hard to get into gear etc.
At around 5 minutes of idling from cold - it slowly revs up to 1000rpm and stays there.
I have not read any codes yet - I doubt anyone would select 1000rpm for idle? -
Are you sure there's no interference with the throttle pedal? I would be hooking it up and look at throttle %
Oxbow Thanks this. -
Throttle pedal remains untouched and it still rises to 1000 rpm with no apparent input or pedal movement.
