Cat by far. Ask 550. Fyi, the purple truck in my picture is my friends and he has over a million and one hundred thousand on it.

There are more engines out there than just Cat or Cummins in heavy duty trucks. That little thing in your pickup just thinks it is in that league.

Man thats a loaded question. the best answer is...it depends... on what your using it for? are you buying new or used? you want big power? maximum fuel economy? reliability? price?.
There are good aguments for and against for both (any!!) engines manufactures.

You'll never get two drivers to agree on this subject. You might as well have asked, "Democrat or Republican?".:biggrin_2554:
I've driven trucks with both and don't even know which one is better.

Either one will get the job done.

Cummins is supposed to be a heck of a lot cheaper to fix though.

I'd go for an early Cat C15 between serial numbers 6NZ00001 and 6NZ45000, driven and maintained properly they will be the best combination of power/fuel economy and reliability but will probably cost a little more to buy than a cummins of the same age and condition.
