not for the road, if u got money 2 throw away get a cat, but if your on a working mans budget get a cummins
-
Yeah CAT is still making on highway engines, look it up genius. Not till after 2010 is when they will stop..... But you seem very intelligent on engine specs, power, reliability with your working mans budget theory that you can keep thinking that. Parts for them are about on average 25% more than CAT so your working mans theory goes right out the window.
I threw plenty of money away when i wanted to be "different" and went N14, never ever have i sunk so much money in a engine in such a short period of time. My CATs have NEVER EVER left me stranded, which is more than i can say for the cummapart!
Oil psi on them is a joke, oil temps are a joke, the oil leaks, and the very long engine life spand sure is worth getting a cummins. My N14 would derate every time i climbed the hill over needles, CA on I-40 do to oil temps getting over 255*F!!!!!! Come on it dont take common sense to realize thats not good. I agree that the 08+ motors are junk but so are the cummins. Someone said CAT built the world, and yes they are right, their machinery, engines, generators, etc. When they stuck the 1693 in trucks it change trucking for the better with guys going a million miles on them compared to the average life spand of 200k of the cummins.
If you want a money pit buy a cummins, if you want reliabilty go CAT! -
i have pulled logs out the forest with a cat, cummins, and detroit in equipment.pulled many a loads down the highway with the same motors. 2 each his own, but how i rate it cummins, cat then detroit. o yeah worked on em a many day, still same order.
jacksd3 Thanks this. -
HA!!!!!!!! If you worked on them then cummins should be last..... Buy one and then see how you like it, its all nice until you have to pay for it.
Hell if i was a company man id have that right foot mashed as well until a rubber mallet pops out of the dash and hits me on the head telling me to stop because somethings wrong. Cummins engines have re generation problems as well, not only that they eat egr valve after egr valve and turbo after turbo, injectors, cams it just goes on and on. -
i aint sittn here all night fussing with you, just make sure you do that high dollar maintence on that cat, and tell em all to stay away from detroit.
-
720k miles, 1000hp to the wheels, and no high dollar maintenance sitting right here.
Detroit is twice the motor cummins will ever be.MacGyver. Thanks this. -
Cut me......I will bleed yellow!!!!!!
cat from the valley, 550hpW900L and HIDIVE Thank this. -
Cat hands down. I hate Cummins. Even when I used to run a marine engine, CAT never let me down wheres cummapart did. The only cummins I liked was the one used in the 359.

if ya like hogh horse power then go cat, but if like reliability and fuel mileage then go Detroit, especially the 60 series. heck you can even pump a detroit up to 500 hp if ya want wit very little trouble, but i like MPG over HP. so i will stick with Detroit
Davin&sons Thanks this.
