I'll agree with you on that up till the emissions crap came out. Since all that Cat has had nothing but problems. The head guy up at the Cat shop once told me if I was to buy a newer truck don't get a Cat unless its and 05 or older. Maybe it was 03 but he did say to try to stay away from the bridge motors unless you knew what to look for. He said some was good some are bad.

I got an '07 cat c-13 an only problem was an o-ring let the oil pressure drop an jake ran like ####. I love the power it has to pull the hills. Older cat can't keep up.

Up to 07 they were fine. Les the bridge isnt bad, all you have to do is swap or reprogram the ecm to older specs. Its basically the same engine as a older 6NZ C15, only real difference is 16.6:1 compression on the bridge vs. 16:1 on 6NZ, catalytic converters in the mufflers, and crappy ecm programming. Also turbo boost is controled by a valve on the fuel filter base, but once you run a older ecm you disconect that.

I wouldn't recomend a new cat to anyone, I have owned 3 trucks with cat engines, the newest one is a 2008 kenworth, the fuel milage is terrible, my friend bought the same truck with a cummins and it does much better. If I had known that before I would have gone with the Cummins or Detroit.

So basically Martin if you buy a bridge motor just get an older ecm to put on it?

Yes or get it flashed to a older C15 program, and gut the cats in the mufflers.

Heavy duty 250. Why wear out 6 tires when 4 does the job? Every thing else is the same except the brakes. 7.3 ALL THE WAY!!!!!

I don't know where you're at, but, while fuel prices were up you could just about STEAL a bigger truck around here in Va.
