Have an O/O with a new Pete with this motor. Fuel filters plug up very fast. Colder the weather, the faster they plug. During the summer they would go 15-20K. Cold weather 3-4K. Last week had to change 4 times in 200 miles. Wasn't gelled up. Cummins solution is for him to put tank heaters and a larger heated filter. Anyone else have this problem?

First question that comes to mind is, where does he fuel? Second, who did he piss off to drop a handful of dirt into his tank?

With the DD15’s (I know, Detroit’s) we have in our fleet. They all have engine coolant running through the fuel filters, we run the filters to 24000, and in 8years we’ve had the around, we’ve only had fuel filters plug prematurely twice. Both the same truck, both the same fuel station, with above ground tanks, and just after they received a delivery.

    We don’t fuel there anymore!!

Not where he's fueling. Not gelling up. Let it sit overnight and drain both tanks, clean fuel. Checked and clear for algae. Cummins knows of this problem, just that their solution is to spend $$$ to add tank heaters and larger fuel filter heater.

Blame Cummins, Blame Pete, heck blame the president.

The fuel is your problem, not the truck. It is either dirty or is gelled and has water/slime suspended that is prematurely plugging filters. It is the only explanation. In the north the cold weather brings out all the slimy goodies that the fuel contains. It can take many filters to rid one bad batch.

I have brand new cummins/paccars with no fuel heaters running up north at -50. Like @Goodysnap says it aint the trucks fault.

Fuel isn't gelling, it's clean and no algae. Had trucks running in cold weather for 40 years, I know how to check fuel. Cummins admits there is a problem with that motor and wants to put larger heated filters and tank heaters to cure it. I have 40+ trucks running the same routes, fueling the same places. Just a couple of O/O's with the X15 performance that have problems plugging filter. Middle of summer they are plugging them.

There’s a x15 thread around here somewhere. Read a couple posts about the same filter problem, I don’t know if they found a cure haven’t read up on it lately.

If they are plugging middle of summer, tank heaters wont help. Why dont you send a filter out to a lab and see what it is catching?

Does he have the Davco unit on there...?

I’ve heard that the engine does better with that unit......

That's what we are doing with the next filter that's changed. Lab right here in town. Just seems that the hotter the fuel is the longer the filters last.
