They should clear the code(s) and drive the truck with a scan tool/laptop hooked up try to recreate the problem. There is freeze frame data that shows what certain parameters/data are (say voltage to actuator....) at the exact point the code was set. There are also oscilloscope tests if someone has the tool and knows how to use it. Like the other poster said, it's a lot more than finding a code and then replacing a part. If Peterbilt is going to guarantee their repair by replacing the actuator and not charging you if it does not work I would be ok with that. Problem with the parts cannon is that the customer ends up paying for so called repairs that were not necessary and did not fix the problem.

That's a great suggestion and you're right I would hate to pay for this part and end up with the exact same problem again and have wasted that money. The problem with trouble shooting this is that the problem is very intermittent and I only get the issue every couples days it seems and only ever at start up. Once it resolves and runs good I'm good for the whole day and codes will come back the next morning. Can the actuator even fully close a turbo and starve my truck of air? Seems odd that their would even be a setting on that which allows it to close so much that it chokes the engine

Go to You Tube. D The Truck Guy, find his 1/17/23 video of a little over 3 minutes, Customer States: You are taking way too long to fix my truck. Your problem is likely wiring and not the actuator, like his was not the sensor.

I would be priming the truck every day for a week before turning it over and seeing if that makes a difference

I am not sure about the X15, but I know on my ISX it has an electronic fuel primer as it was an issue with them losing prime.

If you prime the system every day before starting it and the problem continues you probably can start to narrow it down.

If you prime it every day and the problem goes away, you are probably losing prime somewhere.

Does the fuel level make a difference? Any patterns for when u get low on fuel or something?

Hey how would I do that priming before starting? I haven't noticed the fuel level being a factor though as I've had the issue with low fuel and full fuel. It's at Peterbilt right now getting a new VGT actuator they are confident that's my problem so I will update if that was successful after driving for a week

    What is/was the code?
    upload_2023-2-14_9-59-33.png
Example: not saying this is your code
For code 2636 the actuator is not even listed as one of the Possible causes to solve the problem.
Shop replaced the actuator and the code and performance issues came back.

Keep me posted. I bought this 2020 Volvo with x15 in November and it's done this randomly at startup. But always restarted and ran for the day. Today is the first day it took about 20 starts to finally go. Like you, dead throttle and the same actuator code.

Hey just got my truck back it was an inactive code 5177. Then they plugged in and started the truck after it sat all weekend. Monitoring the actuator parameters they could see it was stuck and the 5177 code was active. Going to be on edge for a week at least till I'm confident the problem won't be reoccuring haha but all seems good so far

Yep that's how mine was for about a month and a half I ignored it because it would only happen every couple weeks till last week it was every other day till eventually I had to be towed. I would suggest bringing it in to get checked before it gets too bad! Apparently those actuators are really hard to find and on back order. I was blessed with a remanned one from Cummins that came available but if you have trouble finding one I might be able to help
