I hate when that happens, but delivery to these grocery stores seems to make it happen more frequently for me.
Trailer tandems are locked and not slide able. Trailers are 48 ft, with tandem day cab. These grocery stores are in a plaza with most not having "deliveries" signage. I can google map the store layout, but with three stops and using my device to find my way there does not allow me to google map when I am close to destination, and there is no place to pull off and park to look at google maps.
I take it real slow when curbing tires. How much damage is occurring to these tires?
Also, is scrubbing the sidewall against a curb better or worse than going up onto the curb?
They have hundreds of stores.

It's inevitable I don't even think about it anymore. ..those engineering
city planners are living in LA LA land bc they can't even design truck friendly streets let alone terminals.
I gotta give Canada kudos for the way they design most truck routes. ..US planners could learn a lot from em.
Sidewalls can take the pressure as long as they are not dry rotted and the weight is being distributed on each axle.Pumpkin Oval Head and Dominick253 Thank this. -
Oh ya and hop the curb if u can.

Curbing tires and /or running over curbs breaks down the sidewall over time. Do you tire carcasses laying on the highway ? I'm betting they were "curbed" quite a bit.

I've always been told it's better to run over the curb than scrub it. If you scrub the curb with your sidewall you run the chance of pinching it between the curb and the rim and cutting it, not to mention other kinds of sidewall damage that isn't immediately catastrophic. As long as you take it slow when you run over the curb you should be fine.

I've always just tried to run over them slow and seemed to fair well.

I agree with raezzor and canned spam. Just gently hop the curb with most of the weight and pressure on the tread zone of the tire. Of course, try not to curb at all, but I think that is the best way when it is unavoidable. And as we all know, sometimes it is unavoidable.

And be sure to take out as much landscaping as you can. They want to design those places to discourage truck access (other then for direct delivery to location), then make them pay.
You guys who deliver those restaurants and dollar stores, and strip mall locations have my respect.Bob Dobalina, Swedish Chef, ncmickey and 10 others Thank this. -
Well to be clear the guys that go in there regularly probably have a big book with arrows pointing on a map pic of each stop.
Hell one store I had to go thru a hospitals main parking area to get to the dock at the back at a strip mall. Then blindside over a curb fighting three telephone poles a tiered dumpster and a mean old lady with my bare hands.
Well that last part wasn't true... I had to go inside first then fight her about SHE is putting the milk in the cooler my job is take it off the truck.
That book helps a bunch.Pumpkin Oval Head Thanks this. -
