Hello and thanks to all that respond.

    This Friday afternoon,

I missed the truck entrance at a retail landscaping and home Improvement store where I was delivering 23000 LBS, 46 Tons of rock loaded on a 45 ft split axle trailer.

So I had to turn around on a small lot and ran over a 5 inch high curb at 5 mph with the left side front tire front axle on the trailer,

with the first axle lifting the second axle off the ground .

The trailer was at 6 o'clock and the tractor was at 11 O'clock.

I know the tire pressure was right on I had only checked it 2 hours before on pre trip. it was not a new tire by all means but it was an ok tire for a trailor.

My boss informed me this morning .

I had damaged the tire and it had to be changed.

I know most tires are very tough .

My Question is was the tire already on its last legs and I finished it off or Did I do a major screw up and ruin a good tire?

My boss is a Great guy and didn't seem up set but tires are expensive , should I offer to pay for the tire?

We are just a Two truck company hauling rock and lumbar loads regional 200 mile or so .

I,m praying to the Trucker Gods to forgive me, :biggrin_25514:

you should offer to pay me for the tire.

tires are an expense of the job. There are lots of curbs that get run over. There are lots of entrances that are pains in the ### to get into. Killing a tire is just something that happens. I would say, that if he is a small O&O with like 5 trucks or something, and it wouldn't put you out a big chunk of change to pay for it. Then do what you feel is right. But if he has a bunch of trucks and 1 tire really isn't that big of a deal to him. then let the company pay for it. There are worse things that can be done to these trucks then rubbing a tire.

But again, it's your money. I wont tell you what to do with it.
If you want to offer to pay for it, then go for it.
IMO it's part of the expense of owning a trucking business.

Spreads are a different breed. When you have to curb be sure to put both wheels on the curb. 10 foot spread and one tire carrying the weight is wicked.

Yup they are a different breed.....

I for one take as wide a turn as possible......and yet....those tires on the front axle always wear faster than the rear.....It's a fact of life for a spread...

Yeah; the scrub is always bad. I had one I could drop the air on tho. That was nice, but you had to watch it would really kick out on a turn.

Must have meant 23 tons = 46K. Probably didnt have dump vaves, they sure help in tight spots......like getting around shopping mall lots...LOL

Thats what I was thinking. If it was 46 ton and he curbed it while turning he better go kiss that tire! That and tell me what brand, I'd like to own some of those.

Also notice one tire curbed picking up the back ax off the ground. 1 out of 4 on that side carrying the weight.

I'd be more worried about it being whacked out of alignment now.
