Had CDOT (Monument N/B) tell me that I was over-laden on my rear axle.....I told him that I was nowhere near being over.....according to my on-board I was 16.5K....
He had me back up over the scale and I was 16,680.....
    That started the "war".....

At Monument S/B, one CDOT told me I was over at 18K......I told them in front other drivers that a Cali legal spread is good to 20K per axle.....They hate being corrected.....

Never mind at Trinidad...DOT there told me their scale is more accurate than a CAT scale.....

No, it wasn't a DOT who told me about the 34,000 it was my instructor at the school I was at.
If you have a link to some literature stating it I'll forward it to him and correct the curriculum.

I scale only when I need a current empty weight or if things don't feel right rolling down the highway! Can't afford a onboard just yet

Completely different every time....depending on the load and how its distributed (and also the surface you're on when backing).

No 2 back ups will ever be the same...

And those spots of ice they leave in truck stop lots in winter....LOOKOUT, and pay attention. That trailer will turn on a dime...right into the truck you're parking next to.

Go here and scroll down at the load axle distance table....
    You'll see 10' 2 axles at 40K....
