This week in NJ,i had an interesting thing happen to me.I need some thoughts/insight on this.

I called on a load from an agent for Landstar. The load was posted for 1200.00 on my load board. It was posted for 36,000 LBS at 320 miles..I called him and it was indeed a broker load.Seems to be all we have here at Landstar anymore.:biggrin_2551:I told him i am 50 miles away from the P/U and i would do this load for 1300.00.He then called the broker and i got the 1300.00 i asked for.He broke out .50 cents for my 100% FS.He also broke out 50.00 for my toll's at 100%.

Once i got to the loading point i realized this load was going to be much more than the 36,000 LBS i was quoted. So i got on the phone and called the Landstar Agent.I told him in a professional voice that this was more like 50,000 LBS.He asked me how did i know this.I said to him that i haul 45,000 LB loads of beer and my air suspension gauge is right on 50.I said my gauge is now at 60 and they are not done loading me...He said he would call his contact..

He called his contact(broker) and this broker called me.He asked me what was the issue.I told him what i observed with the weight. He then told me he was going to contact the customer and to call my agent in a half hour.I called my L/S Agent and he said he can get me another $250.00 on the load...I was happy with this and planned my route to avoid the Nazi's....

I made it to my destination today and i was greeted by the OWNER of the company. He asked me what the issue was.He stated ''I HAD TO PAY AN EXTRA 400.00 BUCKS FOR THIS WEIGHT PROBLEM''.. I then told him that this was overweight. He then tryed to argue with me and he did not believe this.So i got the CAT Scale reciept and showed him.He then quietly walked away and told the guy to unload it...:biggrin_2559:

Did anyone catch what was wrong with this picture.???....I will post more as we disect this load. Thanks

Your quick and your on top of your game....But this is the question..Did the ''broker'' or the ''agent'' get this 150.00....

And is this ''legal'' fair play to keep my money....??

I wouldn't be surprised if they both took a cut out of it.

More than likely fair and legal...ethical, probably not. Most brokers tend to run along the lines that if the truck is wanting / getting more that they are entitled to more as well. The receiver and shipper probably knew it was well over 36 to begin with - did the broker know, maybe or maybe not. Obviously sounds like the receiver tries to work the system to his advantage, and has no issue being unethical about it.

So they both could be in on it.?...Interesting.I did mention what the customer slipped out of his mouth to my Agent. He just ''side stepped'' my questions. He seemed to take the ''blame'' the broker approch.

That is why i thought i would toss it on here and get some other thoughts...

This is why i am a firm believer in more ''regulations'' for these agents/brokers.It seems to me they can get away with MURDER..But if a driver does not dot his ''I's'',he goes to Prison...:biggrin_25513:

Broker skimmed $100 and agent skimmed $50. Who knows.

Point is, never settle for less than you want for your work to move the load. If you were happy with $250, you were happy with $250. I know it sucks, but you also know to ask for more next time. $500 wouldn't be out of the realm of possibilities especially if you're knowingly running a load illegally. I got $250 for running light on fuel for a load two weeks ago and that was a lot longer trip. But, I never had to worry about my weight going above 80k like you did.

Unless the agent is working for the brokerage and LS, the only way he's get a cut was if the broker sent him a kickback. The freight bill is the freight bill. Most likely the broker saw an easy way to make $150.

Good Point. Here i am trying to be a ''nice guy'' and not have them unload this #### load and wack them with extra big money.
And in the end these guys got me good and wacked me.:biggrin_2559:.Go figure. So ''next time'' i will have to take the ''it's only business'' approach instead of trying to be a nice guy and impress people with my kindness...I think many drivers fall into this catagory of trying to ''please'' everyone and we end up short changing ourselves...??
