My dog and I both drive for May Trucking Company. I know that Warner allows dogs but Schneider and Heartland don't.

 

Its definately changed now with the high demand of drivers.

 

The most important thing to know about companies that allow pets is

JUST BECAUSE YOU SEE A PET IN A TRUCK DOESN'T MEAN THE COMPANY ALLOWS PETS.

Some drivers have tried to sneak a pet into a truck against company policy. If you do this and get caught it is usually cause to be terminated. All it takes to get caught is another driver with the company seeing you and asking "why can he have a pet in his truck and you said I can't?" Or your truck breaks and goes to the shop and someone in the shop mentions to the company they like your dog. Or you have a medical issue and go to the emergency room and someone asks the company what to do with your pet. Or some idiot 4-wheeler crashes into your truck and the police note your pet in their report or your pet causes some problem with the 4-wheeler and they try to blame the wreck on your pet.

If the company finds out about an unauthorized pet It's usually considered an "unauthorized passenger". Before you assume you can bring a pet in a company truck you better have talked to someone in management, ideally someone in the Safety Dept. You CANNOT take the word of a company mechanic, another driver, or just any employee you might ask. Trying to get home from many states away with your stuff and a pet at the last minute is no fun.

 

Werner IS NOT pet friendly, oh yes they allow pets. So I go to orientation with my dog in Allentown, PA. They say your dog can not stay outside. I had him tied up, he had his blanket to lay down on with water. I said ok how about in the class room, they said he's not allowed in the class room. He can't stay in the motel either. So I got in the rental car and went home. If a company says their PET FRIENDLY then they need to have facilities to accommodate your pet while you are at their facility. If you DON"T allow pets outside unattended or inside, where are you going to house the pet besides a boarding facility, that I did not want to pay for. So BEWARE of these companies who SAY they are PET FRIENDLY. Ask all the questions you can think of such as, do you have a place for my pet to stay? is the pet allowed in the class room or building? What required shots does the pet need before I arrive?

 

Pet friendly mean you can have a pet in the truck, after you're assigned your own truck.

 

Sounds like you better make sure the company you choose has shippers and receivers that have accommodations for your dog on the loading docks, and in the shipping offices. Not too mention taking him in all the truck stops and showers with you.
